“A Charming and Intimate Hotel”

We stayed two nights at the County Hotel in Napier, New Zealand, March 5th & 6th. The hotel has a great location for walking to all the sights in Napier, the "Art Deco Capital". The rooms are large and individually but tastefully decorated, with names of native New Zealand birds. Ours had a balcony to enjoy the beautiful weather of Hawks Bay. We ate one breakfast and one supper in the hotel restaurant; the cuisine is excellent. The hotel reminds me of something between an upscale B&B and a hotel. My wife LOVED the place. I thought it was very nice and would look forward to staying there again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony if you can/want. There are no bad rooms in the place; we "snooped&quo...

Stayed here for 1 night on our tour around New Zealand. Loved the style of the hotel and the room was very spacious and luxurious. Slept well as the hotel was very quiet, even though we were right by the lift. Great location for a walk to the beach or into town. Staff in the hotel and restaurant were very accommodating and food was lovely.

We had a great weekend in Napier and stayed in the County Hotel.

If you are going to Napier and want to stay in a hotel in keeping with the towns character we would highly recommend this hotel. Motels are cheaper but for a few more dollars you get a lot more !!.

Make sure you have the breakfast !!

Room Tip: All seemed very good but always worth seeing them first if possible...

Although the building dates back to 1909, the hotel dates back only to the 1990s so if you are looking for a genuine historic hotel you will be disappointed. However, the conversion has been done very well apart from the odd niggle such as the old fashioned rotary indicator above the lift door that is still trundling down past 1 after you have got out at the ground floor. The County gives guests the feel of an old hotel but has all modern comforts. We really liked our room which was large and well laid out, our only criticism being that the toilet gets its natural light from the bedroom via a couple of glass tiles which meant that the bedroom got flooded with light if one of us went to the bathroom during the night. A blind that can be pulled down across the tiles would be useful. We found the restaurant at the County exceptionally good for dinner. The breakfasts were also good but we found the portion sizes and ingredients of the dishes varied between the two days that we stayed at the hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very very friendly and helpful and we even got a room with a bath that we asked for when we booked ( there was nothing available when we booked). There was absolutely everything in the room that we needed, even a spare mobile telephone! And the wifi was free- something we found very refreshing because most hotels try to make a few extra bucks with their wifi prices. The room was spacious enough but unfortunately behind a pillar so we didnt have any sign of the outside world. Luckily we were barely there during the day so it didnt matter too much. The hotel is very central to everything and we didnt often need to use the car - for which they had a good enclosed area to park in. We only had breakfast and found that very good in a lovely olde world dining area with great service. We will stay there again and if you like a bit of old world and history I will recommend you try this hotel

Napier is a quiet place, so choices of hotels seemed sparce. This hotel is fine and has some old world charm. Rooms are ok, if a little small and the noise insulation is not great. Staff were helpful. For a bit more life at night, head for the marina area where there are nice pubs and good food options with real people in them!

We don't normally stay in this sort of place but someone else booked it on our behalf. Couldn't really complain - the location was very central, the room large and comfortable, with everything we needed and the staff keen to please.

The library area with complimentary port was a nice touch. We didn't eat at the hotel but had a drink in the bar. My only complaint was that the sparkling wine I ordered was completely flat, but it was replaced immediately.
