“Custard squares”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

Popped into here as heard the Custard squares had a good reputation they were huge and the custard just melted in your mouth perhaps was a little disappointed as was expecting the normal white icing on top but otherwise it was delicious. Lovely place with outdoor indoor seating.
Would visit again.

“Very good! Big meals and lovely food!”
Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

My husband and I ate here for breakfast, the selection and food prices were good and the food was really good! The pies are homemade and have a nice flavour and I had pikelets which was a huge plate, fluffy and lots of flavour! Well worth visiting and will do so again!

“Great value, good food, coffee and service”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

It pays to head in the same direction as the locals. Cafe Ahuriri may not have a sea view, nor is it frequented by the "in crowd", but on all other counts it scores very highly. Great value, good food, coffee and service - others in the area may deliver one or two of these, but fall down on the others. So if it is breakfast or lunch you want, and you are prepared to forego the view, this is the place to head. Tucked away in amongst the businesses and bond stores of Ahuriri, this cafe has plenty of tables, both inside and outdoors (the outdoor seating area is my favourite). You can choose from a menu or a whole range of cabinet food (the custard squares rated especially highly with my daughter, and there are other old fashioned options too). Coffee and meals are delivered to the table quickly, even in busy times. And as for value - at breakfast/brunch you have a range of great options for under $10, many of which would cost up to $20 elsewhere. The mushrooms and muesli are great. And I have to mention the toast - at other places you get several pieces of toast and one (often average) spread at breakfast time. Here they will serve you a selection of three different toasts (for example whole grain, ciabatta) and three different, quality spreads. One morning it could be marmalade, jam and peanut butter, the next the peanut butter may have been replaced by honey. Add to this a range of newspapers to read each day, and clean, well appointed toilets, and it is no wonder this hidden away cafe is so popular with the locals.
