Two Crafts is an unassuming little place situated on the edge of Napier. It is owned and run by Rhonda, a wonderful Maori lady.
On display is a huge range of works of art produced by various members of a local artists co-operative based in Waiohiki, not least Rhonda herself who will happily demonstrate her skills in flax weaving on request. You will not believe what she does with a pasta machine!
Other arts and crafts you will see include beautiful items hand carved in wood, free form wood, stained glass, paintings, wedding bouquets, greetings cards and much more. The centre also provides guidance and training for those wishing to acquire a skill themselves.
I visited with my elderly mother when she visited from England. She had never met any Maori before, but had a great time looking around and chatting with Rhonda. She came away feeling she had made a new friend!
Thoroughly recommended as a way to get an insight into real Maori culture without paying inflated tourist prices.
