Morepork was our first B&B after leaving a 3+ week guided tour of parts of Australia and New Zealand. We decided to stay in New Zealand for another 3 weeks. The house, grounds, room were all great but it was Barbera and Paul that truely made the stay delightful. The house and room were immaculate, clean and welcoming. The breakfast was large and the 2 bottles of ice water delivered to our car each morning was an added bonus. Barbera and Paul helped arrange activities, gave us dinner suggestions and gave us ideas on what to do in other parts of the North island. The three nights we stayed were far too short for all there is to do in the area and we wished we would have stayed longer.

Morepork Lodge was our first B & B in NZ and our 4 night stay was perfect in every way. The large Riverside Room with huge ensuite and gigantic whirpool were spotlessly clean. The king bed was extremely comfortable. We loved the magnificent views of the rolling countryside dotted with sheep and cows. When taking a walk on the acreage, look for the tree with the Morepork Owl sign because, sure enough, there they were staring at us.  The breakfasts were made to order and included everything from delicious homemade musili, yogurt, and jams to eggs anyway you like them, pancakes, bacon, variety of breads, juices, endless coffee, and etc. Our hosts, Paul and Barbara, were delightful. We felt like we were staying with relatives. They greeted us when we drove up and helped carry luggage to our room. We had a " meet and greet" with wine, delicious snacks, and good conversation. The night we were to see the Maori culture show, Paul asked if we would like for them to prepare a Hangi dinner to help set the mood. Of course we said, "Yes!!" The meats and veggies were perfect, the table was covered in fern fronds with banana leaves for serving dishes, we wore lava lavas, and the banana and chocolate dessert was fun to make but better to eat. It was so much fun. Thank you Paul and Barbara for the wonderful stay and wonderful memories.

After driving from Auckland to the Bay of Islands, we were glad to reach Morepork Lodge, our B&B for the next two nights. As soon as we drove in we felt welcome as there was a sign outside the door welcoming us all. Then the front door opened and Paul and Barbara welcomed us as if we were old friends. What a fantastic couple - perfect hosts and the epitome of what you would expect of any B&B. After settling into our delightful rooms (with the added bonus of a hamper of goodies including delicious freshly picked grapes from their own vines) we joined Paul and Barbara in the garden for coffee and nibblies. We were then able to find out from them what would be the best attractions for us to see in our very limited time in the Bay of Islands. When we decided on our adventure for the next day, Paul kindly offered to ring up and book it for us straight away and all we needed to do then was pay him upon checkout - so much easier.
When afternoon tea was over, Paul took us for a wander through their amazingly beautiful property, including a visit to the Morepork owls living in one of the trees by the river as well as their pet goat and alpacas, Anzac and TimTam. Even the chooks were up for a cuddle.
Breakfast was fantastic and we were spoiled even further by some delectable figs which Barbara bought the day before in her travels. We were even able to order dinner for the night before we left at a very reasonable price, which included wine, and the delightful company of our hosts.
I could not recommend Morepork Lodge highly enough. Beautiful home and property but most importantly the perfect hosts, Paul and Barbara. Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable and special.

We (couple plus 12 year old daughter) stayed one night at this delightful lodge in December 2012. We were in the Riverview room - very spacious, comfortable and a lovely big bathroom.

Great as the accommodation was, however, what really stood out for me was the welcome we received from our hosts Paul and Barbara, who were clearly put on this earth to run a B&B - even though they seem to do a million and one other things as well. We will definitely be back.

Seven days in February and the highlight of our five week trip. We were very impressed with NZ B & Bs in general but this one took the biscuit. Paul and Barbara could not have been more welcoming. Every time we came in Paul was there to check all had gone well and to offer tea, coffee stickies etc. Given notice they will cook dinner and dine with you. If that is a concern I can tell you they are excellent company. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. View excellent although nowhere near the sea. Breakfast was wonderful and Paul even had a go at reproducing my favourite school one - how thoughtful. A word of warning - NZ Marmite is not proper Marmite!

Room Tip: Two out of three rooms face the rear of the house. Get one of those if you can.

Having stayed with Paul and Barbara five years ago we were so pleased to be back there again for a three night stay.We were welcomed as old friends and instantly felt at home. Morepork Lodge has developed so well since our previous visit and we were treated to a conducted tour of the grounds and introduced to all the animals including my namesake chicken!!
It is hard to improve on perfection but both of our hosts always go the extra mile to ensure that everyone has a memorable experience. We are already saving for our next visit and cannot recommend Morepork Lodge more highly for an unforgetable visit to the Bay of Islands. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great but our favourite is the Riverview Room with it's jaccuzi bath and de...

We booked for one night on our way back to Auckland, but stayed for two because we liked it so much. The rooms and surroundings are superb and Paul and Barbara are wonderful hosts. I highly recommend Morepork.
