“what Else could you ask for??”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

My wife and I wanted to have some relaxing time in northlands before spending Christmas with relatives. Based on the views promised by the website, and the rave reviews here on trip advisor, we booked Cooks Lookout for five nights. We were not disappointed!!!!
Norm and Shelagh gave us the warmest welcome possible, The views from our room across the bay to russel were stunning. It was so peaceful.
We had a studio room which was spacious, clean, and well equipped.
We had our own private terrace, to sit and enjoy the views. Recently refurbished pool was warm, clean and inviting.
Located on the ridge above Paihia, cooks look out is away from the hustle and bussel of the town centre, but only four minutes drive, so you can have the best of both worlds, enjoy the restaurants and bars in Paihia, but come home for a glass of whatever on your terrace and take in the moonlit bay view before retiring for a good nights sleep.
We will be returning as soon as we can save up to come to NZ again!!

This hotel was booked based on Tripadvisor reviews and the owners Norm and shelagh were great; friendly and accommodating. The view was great but we felt it fell short of one of the best in Paihia. The room was clean, neat and had all facilities but was quite dated. The garden need attention and the grass had not been cut for some time which would have enhanced the image of people paying attention to detail. It was however a pleasant stay without issues but a little more attention to gardens could be to the motels advantage.

Room Tip: Unit 9 overlooks the pool

Often you see very positive reviews and wonder how true they are. Well, Norm and Shelagh, have done it again. We had a great 3 day stay and enjoyed every moment. Firstly, it is great the motel is just a couple of minutes out of town - that means no loud parties, no noisy cars, no shouting down the street. All you hear is the wildlife. Then, from our unit, there is a fantastic view over the bay. Watching the sunset and sunrise is captivating. I have uploaded a photo from the balcony of our unit. Our unit was well appointed and very clean. The pool was great - warm for a swim at anytime (due to the solar heating). The owners Norm and Shelagh do everything they can to make your stay comfortable and offer tips on enjoying all the Bay of Islands has to offer. Also we appreciated Norm's sense of humour - Kiwi hospitality at its best. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a unit with the best views (Norm will do what he can to make it happen).

We have just spent 4 wonderful days in this most gorgeous spot. The views and peaceful setting, comfortable bed, clean rooms and warm pool made a great stay. Norm and Shelagh were incredibly helpful and went out of there way to ensure we experienced the best of this lovely area. This is excellent value for money and the personal touch raises it well above the ordinary. Highly recommend it.

Booked this motel due to favourable Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed! Norm and Shelagh are the warmest hosts you would ever want to meet. The view from the rooms is fantastic - exactly as seen on their website. The rooms are exceptionaly clean and very well equipped. The motel is located just outside of Paihia, maybe a 4 minute drive and as a result it is very quite. Norm booked an excursion for us, offered maps of the area and made excellent recommendations for meals in town. The fish and chips at Shippy"s should not be missed.

Really enjoyed my recent stay with Norm and Shelagh. The motel truly has incredible views, to be enjoyed from the rooms as well as the newly spruced up pool. The room was clean and well-equipped with everything needed for a short break, and the hosts offered an impressive DVD selection for hire. Norm and Shelagh made us feel very welcome and were very forthcoming with information about Paihia and beyond, helping us to organise activities during our time in the beautiful Bay of Islands. Would definitely stay again.

My wife and I highly recommend Cooks Lookout Motel, excellent communication both by email prior to our visit and during our stay. Answering any questions with a cheerful, sometimes comedic personality. Norm gave us a couple of maps with his recommendations of spots to go, not just the normal tourist spots as well.
The views from both the room and deck are excellent with privacy a plus.
Please support New Zealand Motel operators like Norm & Shelagh they deserve you company and business.
