We stayed three nights. It's a short 5-10min walk from the main action of Paihia, which is probably a good thing if you want to relax by the pool without being bothered by traffic and helicopters running joy flights.

The only issue we had was being disturbed by very noisy plumbing - especially if our neighbors took a late night shower or flushed the loo.

Other than that, it was clean, tidy, and convenient,

Stayed here for a few days while touring on coach. Very good staff in restaurant and helpful on front desk. There are good laundry facilities. No Wifi. They do have a computer in common area but limited facility. Rooms are basic but comfortable. Food very good overall. Location good for venturing to very small township. The hotel has an outdoor spa facility. It is an old hotel that would benefit from a makeover.

Two night stop on touring holiday. Very helpful at check in with good local information. Room rather bland but clean and all functional. Dinner was limited choice as menu all Indian food. Short walk into town with plenty of eating choices so not a problem.

Overall a satisfactory stay. Noted an earlier comment about bus tours but did not encounter the same problem. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Motel style with no lifts. Ask for back end of car park and ground level if you have heavy luggage...

Like another reviewer we booked a '50% promo' deal for $89 per night for 2 nights at the Tanoa. When we arrived, we quickly realised this was a very old motel style hotel, & $89 was top dollar, in fact, 2 nights on the hotel's own site was actually only $85 per night, so we didn't make a saving at all. The rooms are small & very basic, & quite dark as they don't get any sun - don't believe the photos on the web site! The TV was so old fashioned it needs to warm up for several moments before a picture appears, hard to believe when large flat screen TVs now cost so little. The worst feature is that this hotel is frequented by bus tours, which means you get woken very early by buses running their engines outside your window quickly followed by large groups trundling luggage & talkling loudly - understandable as they need an early start, but hardly restful for other travellers (especially when you have been tossing & turning all night in the cheap beds). In fact any noise echoes through the rooms which obviously have very flimsy walls between rooms. On a more positive note the rooms are very clean & the staff friendly & helpful. The continental breakfast in the tariff was very basic but adequate, with good quantities for all.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else - all dark & noisy

Dear jmd18

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay. I would like to comment on some of the specific points made in your review:
I will certainly address the bus noise issue as the bus parking area is well away from the guest rooms.
Our 3.5 star hotel is situated in a peaceful bush setting, however we do receive lovely morning sun which usually lasts till mid to late afternoon during summer months.
The photos on our site were taken only 12 months ago and we believe accurately reflect the standard of the hotel.
I agree with your comment re the televisions. They are slightly older and we will be replacing these with modern flat screen sets in the very near future.
I am glad to hear that you found our staff to be friendly and helpful. I have shared your compliments with the Front desk team.

Thank you once again for your comments and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Regards
Amay Acharya

Paihia is a beautiful town in the Bay of islands, we stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with a tour group. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and treated well for the whole stay. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style meals with good choices available and there is also an Indian Restaurant at the hotel. The room was comfortable and the bathroom seemed quite new with a good shower. It is about 5 minutes walk into town so very central.

Room Tip: We had a room on the second floor outside and the sun shone in during the afternoon it was lovely bu...

We jumped at a 'promo' offer of $80 per night , assuming it was a good deal, only to pay less( $75) on the hotels' own website for an extra night. The room looks large in the photo but is small and dark. There is only the sliding door onto the walkway facing east for natural light, and there is neither views nor sun from there. Dissapointing when the town is littered with motels overloking the sea.
The TV is analogue and only plays channels1,2+3. There is no Wi Fi.
Apart from tea and coffee making there are no kitchen amenities.
The walls are thin. The neighbours toileting , music and TV , jug boiling are all audible.

Room Tip: Small and dark , an overnighter at best.
