Spent Labour Day weekend here for one night in what was advertised as 'Newly refurbished' Hotel rooms. The bathroom is like something from the 80's - edges in bathroom were filthy and dusty, possbly even some builders dirt! We were in room no. 18 not sure what the other rooms were like though but this was certainly not refurbed! The toilet wasnt even clean porperly with a 'speck' of someone elses poo in it! They went through the trouble of neatly folding about 3 sheets of toilet paper on the roll in there to a point as they do at posh hotels - with the new roll just let on top of the toilet!
The Light switches were grubby and had like a red mark on - assuming from a bloody finger - one wipe by me took this away!
So after i decided it was for one night and we paid half the price and we were more there for sightseeing I discovered the worst part later that night.

The bed cover was like a brown colour and in the evening light had like yellowish stains on. I decided to take off the cover, and then the inside had a blood stain on it! When lifting open the sheets the were 2 rather conspicuous looking hairs on it (probably someone elses pube!
This place was mortifying and even though the owner was so nice I was almost embarrassed to say anything. Also since we were on holiday and travelling light you'd expect that when you book into a 'hotel' that you'd at least get shampoo or shower gels when asking we said they only gave you soap which was the tiniest bar of handsoap ever! Also many people booking in after us around 3pm were waiting around for their rooms which still hadn't been cleaned! and check in was meant to be 2pm. This place is mortifyingly filthy! Do not go here - it is old, dirty, grotty and revoloting - The camp site seems like it would have been a better option. There was even a dead fly on arrival on the head board and the bedside cabinets were thick with dust clearly not wiped in a while! Also the pool wasnt even clean - lots of sand at the bottom. And since arrival or checking out it was never cleaned by anyone! added pics as proof!!!!

Caravan Sites directly across from Haruru Falls was magnificant. Facilities are very run down. Amenities block sub standard. Laundry facilities extremely basic. Guests have to wait for staff to complete their laundry before they can uses the machines and dryers. You even have to pay $5.00 for the hire of the gas bottle for 20 minutes for the BBQ!

We stayed at this campsite (in a campervan) on the first night of our honeymoon. Being winter, the site was mostly empty - but that meant we got the best seats in the house, next to the water with a full view of the falls. In fact, when the tour bus arrived the next morning to collect us for an excursion, several other travellers got OFF the tour bus to take a photo of the falls from our camping spot!

Great, clean facilities, with a cosy bar and restaurant on site. The restaurant was shut as it was off-season (so can't comment on the food), but we had a great night in the bar just chatting to the very friendly owners.

All in all, a fantastic spot that set the standard for the remainder of our trip, and was never beaten in terms of idyllic location and views out of the campervan!

A great place to stay, wonderful location for campers, and perfectly located to Paihia, the supermarket and trips to Kerikeri and surrounding vineyards. The campsite is lovely and peaceful and has an excellent swimming pool and BBQ area with facilities for social groups and families (hot showers too which is a great bonus!). We have stayed there a number of times and it would always be our first choice when heading up to Paihia. Would definitely recommend rental of the reasonably priced kayaks available on site for a peacful paddle around the falls. Staff and management have always been very friendly and welcoming and the bar and restaurant facilties are great. Good food and a great location for getting to know the locals and other holiday-makers. Will certainly be going back again!

More a motel & campsite than a resort, but we did enjoy our stay. We stayed in one of the motel style rooms which was clean, comfortable and quite large. We had a lovely time swimming with our little one in the very large pool. The grounds were very well maintained. The waterfall was nothing spectacular but made for a pleasant back drop. This motel was quite far from Paihia and you would certainly need your own transport to consider staying here but was nice and quiet away from the tourist crowds.

I have just come away from camping at Hurara Falls "Resort" for the Easter Weekend with my partner and 3 other friends and we were all very disappointed by the lack of care and cleanliness of the facilities for campers.

The campsite is in a beautiful location overlooking the river and Haruru Falls themselves, and they also have a very nice pool and a restaurant which we did not try (although a fellow camper told me that they had seen a cockroach on the bar when we were jointly bemoaning the state of the camping toilets).

We chose this site of the three (all adjacent to each other) because it looks on the surface well equipped and with good facilities - however AFTER we had paid and set up camp we wandered over to the toilets and camp kitchen and our hearts sank. The toilet and shower block was FILTHY, I mean really grubby, there was ingrained dirt on the floors and walls so you couldn't tell which was fresh filth and which had built up over time! I never once saw them clean - although I guess they gave it a cursory wipe over once in a while. On the second day after it hadn't looked cleaned a put a big cross in the massive smear on the mirror to see whether it would be gone in the morning - and the cross stayed there for 3 days and is probably still there now - so no cleaning of the mirror - a simple wipe would have done it! The kitchen was not much better, very basic in comparison to all other NZ campsites we have stayed at, no utensils, a very dirty fridge and no freezer, and some hobs. The two hobs with four rings worked ok the others might keep a pot warm but would not be strong enough to heat any food safely.

I can't vouch for the cleanliness or otherwise of the cabins - they looked ok on the outside, but they certainly did not seem to care about the campers and for the price I would say they are just living off their location!

We (4 of us) spent a long weekend recently in one of the Family Apartments.
The accommodation was excellent. It was clean, tidy and very comfortable.
Serviced everyday with clean towels etc. Very friendly and helpful staff.
We had fantastic views of the falls and river from the deck of our apartment.
We spent alot of time by the pool which was wonderful. We all had a very relaxing, enjoyable time and didn't want to leave.
Highly recommend The Haruru Resort and we will definitely be back.
