Owner description: Waitangi Treaty Grounds, New Zealand's most important historic site, is where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and the indigenous Maori in February 1840. Set on a stunning site overlooking the Bay of Islands, Waitangi is an absolute must-see for all visitors to the North, international and New Zealanders alike. Attractions include the historic Treaty House, a giant flagstaff, a unique fully carved Maori meeting house and the the world's largest single-hulled canoe (waka). Guided tours and cultural performances run at regular intervals throughout the day. Open daily except Christmas.

Beautiful views amazing culture great information . The Maori meeting house and dance is a must! If you can pay alittle extra pay for a guided tour worth everything.

This should be on everyones to do list when visiting Northland. The cultural performance was excellent and well worth the time. We also did the guided tour and information provided was both educational and so informative. A delightful setting and even on a winters day so beautiful with the forest walks.

After crossing the Waitangi Bridge you have the trailer boat launching ramp on the left absolutely safe and sheltered and a good view of the adjacent moorings, we arrived just as a launch was coming in from a fishing charter and were invited to inspect their catch, four large Kingfish.
You can follow the road through the Treaty grounds past the golf course and right through to Haruru Falls, another must see in the area.
