“Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

We recently stayed here for two nights with our children (aged 6 and 9). The apartments are arranged in three blocks around a courtyard area. Within the courtyard is a small, unheated swimming pool, seating area and hot tub. The apartments look modern but also feel very crammed into the space and facing each other meant a distinct lack of privacy for most people.
The biggest shock for us staying at this "resort" was a very large backpackers directly behind the rear block - the noise was unbelievable on the first night (a Friday) and continued until 11pm. I was disappointed by this because I had specifically mentioned I needed a quiet room.
The areas next to the apartments are pretty dire - our views were mainly of the back of a dilapidated old house, the back of Alfrescos restaurant and a car park, the side of another apartment block, with a small view of the sea between them.
The apartment itself was fine - quite small but had a clean, well equipped kitchen. The rest of the apartment didn't feel as clean and was a little grubby in places.
Another thing I thought wasn't right for a 5 star resort was the lack of service. The rooms aren't serviced until after the third night of stay, or you can pay extra if you want service before then. This amazes me when I compare it to all the places I've stayed in New Zealand.

Overall I feel this is an ok place to stay - but definitely not 5 star and vastly overpriced. I won't stay here again or recommend it (we saw plenty of other apartments in nicer surroundings further along the street) but if you do want to stay here, the best apartments are on the first and second floors at the front on the side away from Alfrescos, which gets quite noisy at night.

It's not often you find a 5 star hotel that will let you bring your dog on holiday so this is a rare gem. But don't be put off thinking you'll be surrounded by dogs. When we stayed, our small spoodle was the only dog there. The facilities are VERY clean, it's right opposite a beach (which is probably the nicest in the area) and you can hire kayaks, bikes etc from the shop opposite. The hosts are really friendly, even taking our pooch for an afternoon and when I returned she was sitting happily smooching with them. They always came out to say hi when passing - thanks heaps for creating a fantastic holiday. It's just a short five or so minute walk from the main centre. It could get a little noisy during the latter part of the night with some hostels around the corner but considering we were the one of the closest apartments to them and we still got a great night sleep it wasn't much bother. The beds were comfortable with a huge kitchen and two bathrooms. We all would be happy to permanently live here.

We stayed four nights here from the 21st December 2011. It was in a perfect location, just across the road from the beach of Pahia. The hotel was clean, modern, well equipped and quite honestly, perfect! The hosts were more than helpful and despite what some information will tell you, there is secure parking on site.

Room Tip: The rooms with the best view are on the first floor.

Edgewater Palms, also called the Ramada Suites Paihia, are located next to the beach in Paihia, Bay of Islands. We got a complimentary upgrade and extended our stay for an extra night (total of five nights). Small and personal apartment hotel. No restaurant, but there is a taverna next door and more restaurants within short walking distance. Cleaning is done every third day, with new towels etc. Each room has a big balcony or veranda.

Clean, safe, friendly and spacious. We would definitely return!

We travelled with a 10 months baby and that was not a problem.

We stayed in a two bedroomed, top floor, sea view apartment in December. The rooms were spotlessly clean, modern and catered for all our needs. The balcony overlooked the lap pool and spa but also looked out to the sea from the side. The main bedroom had a huge walk in robe. The hotel is within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful, recommending things to do for our short stay in Paihia. We would definitely stay there again.

We recently stayed in this apartment. The room is presented well and within walking distance to the wharf. We were disappointed the room we were given was next to a pub /backpackers and had loud music playing till 1am.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the pub/backpackers

We stayed in a 2 bedroom Admirals View unit and also a 1 bedroom Admirals View unit. Both were well presented, great views over the bay, and reception staff were very helpful and obliging. The car park is secure but a bit tricky to manouvre. The location is within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and wharf. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: Front units to the north side are next to a bottle shop carpark and are a bit noisy in the early eve...
