The stay in this B&B has been a wonderfull experience. The view from our lodge was magnificant (I said this morning when God created this piece of the earth he must heve been in a very good mood), the hospitality of Colleen was the best. The breakfast was great, no even better. If there is in the future the possibility to go back to New Sealand, we will certainly go back to the B&B again.

It was a real joy to meet you, Willy, and your wife, Wilma. Your enjoyment of all that you saw and did was a delight to witness and I am so pleased that you loved your short time here in our little piece of heaven. Enjoy the rest of your travels through this beautiful country and return when you can!

This B&B is a few of kilmetres outside of Paihia but don't let that put you off - it is much nicer to be by the river than in the 'noise' of town. It was just a short drive into Paihia for dinner. The location is stunning, and the food very thoughtful. The quality and presentation of everything was top notch. A lovely break from Auckland.

Room Tip: Ask for the river side rooms

My wife came across this place on the internet. We were very impressed with the photos on the internet. But when we reached there it was mind blowing. Awesome location and setting. Perfect place to unwind and relax for the holiday. Clean and tidy with excellent host. Always recommended and for sure will be using this place again. Loved every moment of it. Thanks for the lovely time. Abhishek and Ila

We first found Appledore Lodge by accident, six years ago. We liked it so much we booked in for five nights this time. The setting is stunning, beside a river with white water coming down in steps. There were ducks and a kingfisher when we were there. The rooms are all excellent, very comfortable. The location is quiet, outside Paihia itself. The new owners are continuing the earlier high standard of facilities and service: very friendly, cheerful, helpful. Be aware that the breakfasts are 'continental', not cooked; they are delivered to your room in a tray the previous evening, with other items in a fridge. The quality is high, there's more food than you can eat: fruit, muffins, toast, yoghurt, cereal selection, tea/coffee, juice... we really didn't miss the unhealthy options! Paihia is a beautiful location, with a wide range of places to eat, ranging from pizza parlours to "Only Seafood", a high-quality seafood restaurant. Highly recommended; we would stay at Appledore Lodge again if we were in the area. The location is well placed for visiting most of the Northland area, with bus tours to Cape Reinga at the northern tip, along with boat trips and helicopter rides.

Room Tip: The cottage and studio rooms are bigger and more secluded.

It was a delight to meet you both and I was so pleased that you stayed for a while as that gave you time to enjoy the sights and to relax as well. Thank you for the compliments about the breakfast and I hope it sustained you throughout the day! Next time you visit, I shall be sure to book you into the cottage or the studio, but I did enjoy chatting to you both and loved the fact that we all watched the rugby in our lounge together. You are very welcome at any time and we look forward to seeing you on your next trip to our beautiful part of the world.

Thanks to their honesty my gold necklace
The cottage we were in had everything! Didn't expect the washing machine and drier...great! The bubbling, gurgling sound from the river was therapeutic and the stars and moon so clear as there was no light pollution....magic. The bird life a bonus.
The hosts were charming and exuded welcoming warmth.
We'll be back again next year.

We stayed at Appledore Lodge for two nights, November 8th and 9th 2012. It was our first B&B In New Zealand. Carl and Stephanie welcomed us with a drink and a nice relaxing chat. We directly feld comfortable! A perfect start of our holidays. They helped us to book a trip to the "hole in the rock" and advised us on the right restaurants. The location of the guest house was really beautiful with a nice balcony and garden. A very peaceful area to enjoy nature and within 10 minutes from Paihia and the wonderful Bay of Islands. Despite of the cold night, we slept very well with the sound of the river on the background. Breakfast was very good and more than enough! When we are able to go back to NZ ever, we certainly go back to Appledore Lodge :-)

We are always happy to hear that guests have enjoyed their time at Appledore. Thank you for your encouraging comments and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in New Zealand as much as you did in the Bay of Islands.

It was a warm and heartly welcome by Carl and Stephanie in their beautiful home with the wonderful view over the river and the meadows. Really a green and peaceful place in november.
Carl and Stephanie gave kindly useful informations and telephoned for a ship journey in the Bay of Islands. Breakfast in the fridge was excellent and nicely prepared and we could have this meal and others on the deck with the fantastic outlook over the river, the garden.
We found this place so nice and if we will be able to return to NZ we would choose again.
