We stayed here in November last year. As our first ever night in New Zealand we couldn't have been more welcomed. A fantastic setting, with a very peaceful view over the river, beautiful to sit out on the balcony and enjoy a glass of wine. A good selection of food for breakfast, all wonderfully cooked and displayed, tastes even better! Thank you for a great start to our holiday.

Room Tip: A little out of town, a car is a must!

Thank you for your kind comments Jan. It was a delight to meet you and the family and we are so pleased that the peace of Appledore Lodge suited your wishes. The summer weather has been glorious for weeks now and we are enjoying the splendour of the gardens and balmy evenings - does that make you wish to return? Kind regards to you all, Colleen and Ashley

Thank you Colleen and Ashley for making us feel so welcome, both into our luxurious room and your home. The home cooked food was a special touch and well received. We really enjoyed your company as you are special people and appreciated the travel tips. All the best, Donna and Mike.

It was lovely having you to stay with us at Appledore Lodge and we hope to see you back here later in the year. It is always nice to be able to chat so easily to guests such as you both. I have just made some more batches of plum jam as the tree is laden with fruit! We hope your travels to the Middle East went well and that you managed to see all that you wished for.

We loved meeting you both and sharing your enthusiasm for New Zealand and Appledore Lodge. The weather certainly made a perfect ending to your time here and it always makes us happy to know that guests have had the BEST time while with us in the Bay of Islands!

Two nights just wasn't enough at this beautiful, scenic lodge. We were there to celebrate our recent engagement and excitement of our pregnancy, and we were delighted to share that with our host, Colleen. Instead of being shown our rooms immediately as per every other lodge, we were greeted with a friendly invitation into the main home and were greeted by name. After being given refreshments and discussing both our own travel plans and given our hosts personal history and love for the lodge, we were shown our room. We initially stayed in the Victorian Room, a quaint little room with gorgeous natural light and views to the river. We were expecting to then stay our second night in the Riverside room, however, Colleen arranged the Cottage for us so we could experience even more that the Appledore Lodge had to offer and give us a taste at what a Riverside honeymoon could be like, which we appreciated incredibly. The Cottage was breath taking. With over 180 degrees of panoramic views of the river and a superb layout that made us feel at home, we instantly fell in love. A breakfast hamper was beautifully arranged in the kitchen with home made goodies and everything was organised to make us feel like royalty. Colleen even made a visit to us shortly after moving room to make sure everything was in order, which was comforting. With the river so close, the bedroom door had to be kept open overnight to hear the rushing of water of stones. Location was perfect to go north bound or town bound, the hospitality was extraordinary and the facilities (our room, the pool, breakfast hampers etc) were unbelievable. We'll be back again and again, and who knows? Maybe a wedding function too. We highly recommend to all who need to relax in a home away from home.

Room Tip: The Cottage offers the most value for money

Thank you for your kind and very enthusiastic review, Sam. I so enjoyed meeting you both and sharing your excitement in some of the milestones in your lives. We would love to see you both back here before the baby is born and perhaps for your wedding photos and/or honeymoon- what a special occasion that would be!

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Appledore Lodge and that the weather was very kind to you - a little too kind I think as you did catch some sun on the boat trip! We sincerely hope that the rest of your trip is as enjoyable as your time here in the Bay of Islands and we may well take you up on your offer to visit you in the Netherlands.
