Description: Provenir is a modern local restaurant with a seasonally driven menu. The centre of the restaurant is the kitchen where ingredient quality is non-negotiable. Provenir emphasises the age old formula of simple ingredients cooked well, freshness with a sense of energy, a little bit theatrical, true to life with quality and a story. Hand made, artisanal, from farm to chef. We know our farmers, fisherman, wine makers & growers; from Rod McDonald with his Quarter Acre stunning Syrah, to Bill French who raises our Perendale Lamb, they are just a few of our team. “Superb”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

Having eaten in many top restaurants around the world we were not expecting more than a good meal from Pure Tastes. Luckily we were one of only 4 tables tonight, and the service was also excellent. The entire experience was world class. I'd say this restaurant is one of the best in NZ and better than Kauri Cliffs restuarant nearby at $1600 a night (on a special) where we stayed recently.

I am a meat lover but I enjoyed the vegetables more on my plate than the meat, a real testament to the Chef. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our ordered meals looked and tasted superb. We ordered sides but didn't eat much of them as the main meal was so good. Our 5 year olds meal was good, and kids are well catered for.

We had dessert in preference to our usual cheeseboard and were not disappointed.

While prices are on the high side for NZ (but very reasonable compared to US or international prices), they are well well worth it. I'd visit before this Chef is snapped up by a top US or EU establishment - he is that good.

“Sensational”
Reviewed 9 April 2012 via mobile

We were in Paihia for 4 nights over Easter and came here purely on the basis of TA reviews (it just looks like part of a hotel, so doesn't obviously stand out as somewhere purely for dining). We could not get in on the Saturday so booked for Sunday instead.
The other reviews talking about the quality of the food are correct. My wife had what she said was the best starter she has ever eaten - the pea tortellini. It had a goats cheese mousse which was outstanding and absolutely delicious (I managed to nab a couple of mouthfuls). My scallops were purely excellent. We then followed this with lamb and sirloin (the latter was full of lots of flavour) and both had Eton mess, which was not like an Eton mess I have had in the Uk, but still utterly delicious. We got so carried away that to accompany the puds we had to have dessert wine which was perfect.
Service was attentive and friendly.
The food here really is very very good and compared to other places we have eaten over the last month in NZ we found it good value for the quality of the meal on offer.
It is not just the best in Paihia, but one of the best meals we have had in NZ.

“Good meal”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

Great meal and one of the only australian /european modern food restaurants in the Bay of Islands. The service was amazing and it was clear the chef was a cut above the average chef.

I would definitely recommend a meal here if you visit Paihia and don't want to have to travel far - walking distance from most parts of the resort.

Yum food

“5 star ?”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

Booked a table after reading good reviews....walked away feeling a little cheated by the '5star' reputation. Turned up for the booking on time and ended up having to seat ourselves as the staff were too busy to see to us, we were then left at the table for 15 minutes before getting any water or attention. Only table left was inbetween 2 other couples and it was a tight squeeze. Unable to have any private conversation and felt uncomfortable. Both my partner and i felt that the food was very under seasoned and something about all of it was lacking. My Pork Belly was certainly lacking the crispy topping which you would expect ....it was fatty and flabby and fairly unpleasant. My Partner ate the vegetarian dish which again lacked any flavour and wasnt up to 5star standards. The staff were friendly although didnt know much about the wine or food( It was a big struggle to get out of the waitress where the cheeses were from and what they were) . Also, the wine list was missing vintages? At the end of the meal we ended up making friends with the people next to us and decided to have a glass of wine with them, although the staff had obviously finished their duties and were ready to leave and made us feel fairly uncomfortable and we ended up leaving earlier than we would have liked to (10pm!) For the 5stars and the price i do not think this place is worth it.
