I love the setting here with the pond full of eels, ducks and pukekos. The coffee is always good as is the food and the friendly service. It's a personal favorite coffee and cake stop for me but when I have had a full meal here it has also been good. It's a great place to take a moment to relax and enjoy good food in lovely surroundings.

Location couldn't be better: you're basically overlooking the treaty grounds surrounded by a semi-tropical forest. Food is ok but good enough for a good snack to start the Horuru Falls 2:30 hours return walk

This was some of the best food we ate ashore on our Cruise of NZ (starting in Dunedin and including eating in Wellington and Auckland). Most cafes at tourist attractions are geared to feeding the masses and are generally ok, but not great - this Cafe is the exception to that rule. When you first walk into the Cafe it looks like a rustic botanic garden style cafe, order and pay at the counter, with a lovely garden/pond outlook - so I didn't expect restaurant quality. The menu is interesting, with a variety of offerings and the presentation and combination of flavors thoughtful and different; pricing was fairly standard for the location (ie not cheap, but not overpriced). They had great coffee - its hard to get the perfect coffee in most places, as it relies on good beans, the setting of the expresso machine and the person making the coffee and I'm told by my husband that its even harder to get a Long Black that is good (by way of interpreting for non-Australians and New Zealanders - we think this is what Americans call an "Americarno" without milk). The other good thing, given we were there on a day of strong winds and rain, is that the Cafe is well sheltered - a haven out of the weather.
