“A hidden gem in town”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Went there for first time. I didn't expected it to be a that good and big place .. It has a garden bar .. The best feature I liked was they have small rooms for groups for casual dining ... Food was fantastic ... Full marks for service and ambience for sure will be back :) ... Heaps thanks to the team involved

“Mexican food needs a little work”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We all Ordered burrito's as we felt like mexican. The burrito's were obviously pre-made before hand, and heated up in a microwave as we found out when we cut into them the middle was still cold. Didn't realise we had ordered the burrito's with hot chips inside and they weren't nice at all especially being cold. The staff service, friendliness are atmosphere is this restaurants best Assets, if only they could get their food right then this would be a top place.

Hi thank you for your comments, we are sad to hear you did not enjoy our new "California burrito"
we apologize that the burrito was not served hot, this how ever could have been quickly fixed if you had told our staff. They are more then happy to help everyone and love to make customers experience great.
Our new menus clearly gives a full description of both our burritos.
The new Californian burrito is served with chips, sirloin steak, fresh sour cream, guacamole, home made tomato salsa, jalapenos and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla, perhaps the cold sauce could have caused the burrito to cool down too fast.
However we do serve another VERY HOT burrito on our menu called the "smothered burrito" This comes out sizzling on a hot skillet and maybe something you would prefer to try next time, It is by far our most popular lunch item. Very delicious.
Nothing on our lunch or dinner menu is microwaved.
Please do feel free to contact me via email, abracadabracafeandbar@gmail.com or ask for Nadia, justin or Jamie when your next in, we would be happy to have you try the smothered burrito on us.
Cheers.

“The only constant is change...”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Visited Abracadabra the first time under new ownership and found it less whimsical and colourful than it used to be. Lamps and shoes above the heads are gone, funky table cloths as well - and I missed them sadly because it created a lot of the uniqueness and charm.
We went for lunch and found no vegetarian or vegan options in the cabinet. Staff is still super competent, friendly and professional, but it has definitely lost some of its character to us.

Thanks for your review we value all our new customers views and take into consideration all feed back. As new business owners we have made lots of new, exciting plans and changes, we are putting our heart and souls into Abracadabra and we feel that change is something we embrace daily here and all the new changes have been received very positively by our regulars and also people who are first timers.
We decided to sell on the plastic table cloths and bring in refurbished nz rimu tables as we felt it brought a certain warmth and ambiance to this old lovely 1940s house that already has such character. The Moroccan lights and lamps are still in original place, we have not moved them.

I prefer the vegan path myself and enjoy cooking and eating this way and am very passionate about whole foods. We are heading in the direction of new food choices, so we can cater to all different needs. We will be introducing heading into summer, raw, organic, free range, vegetarian options as well as trying out more vegan recipes, also a healthy smoothie range as well as Acai bowls which is weeks away from going live here.
I'm currently in contact with some ladies here and looking at doing our first vegan dinner party, so we are excited for that. It could be something that we have once a month if there is local interest, so keep checking back on us!
Thanks and look forward to seeing you again.

“Excellent service, good food, interesting Decor”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We came to this café/bar for breakfast as it was highly recommended on Tripadvisor and we loved it. We were greeted by a young guy (Cody??) who was very friendly (a little cheeky) and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and huge so we couldn't eat it all. We were so taken with the place we came back for a drink in the bar later that day and again we got great service and a bit of cheekiness. The décor in this place is amazing, very quirky, we loved it. Will definitely visit again. Thanks.
