“Fantastic B&B with an amazing and friendly hostess!”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

We spent 2 nights with Vivian at the B&B at the Redwoods. It was a last minute detour so we never got around to researching what there was to do but that didn't matter because Vivian was so amazing. She gave us the perfect 2 day itinerary when we arrived and even researched everything that was open on Christmas day for us.
She also found us a wonderful place for a Christmas dinner (at the Mokoia) and we couldn't have been more pleased.
During our down time, she was always around for a friendly chat and to make sure we had everything we needed.
The B&B was comfortable, we stayed in the Koru suite. The room was very nice and spacious and even had a private outside sitting area.

Took my mother down from Auckland to Rotorua for a weekend recently.

Totally enjoyed the stay with at Vivien & Peter's, super convenient location - only a few mintues drive to the city, right beind the Redwood forest (even though we didn't get time to go), excellent condition of the room and the lounge - clean, tidy & well decorated with good taste, gives you a instant warm and welcoming feeling the minute you walk in, you can also enjoy your own deck and share the back garden for a relaxation.

the advice from Vivien was very helpful, and she's a good cook! the breakfast was yummy and her cake was also excellent! Also enjoyed the interesting conversation with Peter and other guests from UK at night.

Overall, highly recommended B&B if you come to Rotorua! Well-worth it!

B & B @ The Redwoods has the best location in Rotorua, within easy walking distance of the beautiful Redwood Forest. Vivien and Peter are excellent hosts, we felt completely at home from the minute we arrived. Our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, guests also have use of a lovely lounge area with facilities to make hot drinks and Vivien's home made cake on the table. Breakfast was superb and Vivien was brilliant when explaining the various things to see and do in the area.

What a great place to kick off our stay in New Zealand. Vivien and Peter are the perfect hosts, making you feel like visiting family instead of intrepid tourists! They are extremely knowledgable on the area and we really enjoyed our social chats ..not to mention the glass of wine. The location is wonderful being on the edge of the Redwood forest and close to the geo thermals like Wai-o-tapu ...or our favourite Kerosene Creek...thanks for that tip Peter ;) Blue Lake is a must as is the Landing Café (Vivien's tip). Although you are only 5 minutes away from downtown or the lake front, you feel a world away from the strip of hotels right in Rotorua. The room is quiet with a nice lounge area to relax and have breakfast. Breakfast was beautiful ..I went with the made to order eggs and who can refuse those famous muffins!! We were also impressed by Rotorua itself ...there are so many things to do...our only disappointment was not allowing enough time there to see more and perhaps have another night or two at The Redwoods ;) I guess that means we will just have to go back ...and there is no doubt where we will be staying! Look forward to seeing you again Vivien and Peter and many thanks for the wonderful stay....

We stayed at the B&B @ The Redwoods in late September for one night and totally regretted not getting to stay there longer. We arrived hours earlier than check-in because we wanted to park our car there while we went mountain biking in the redwood forest that is just a couple blocks away (bike shop is just a block away also). Vivien’s husband greeted us and gave us some great recommendations on which trails to take (better advice than we got at the bike shop). Since it had been raining, we wanted to know what areas/trails to avoid. He got on his computer and printed out instructions/descriptions of the trails for us before we left as we were getting our bikes ready. He also offered us muffins that Vivien baked that day and they were seriously the best muffins I have ever had. They were lemon with white chocolate (made from the lemon tree in the back yard) and they were amazing…light, crumbly and moist and I’ve been trying (and failing) to make them ever since I got home. I was a little disappointed that it was raining most of the time we were there so we couldn’t take advantage of the little deck off of our bedroom in the back yard. It is so peaceful and relaxing and I just wanted to sit there and read with a glass of wine. The only negative review I read complained that you are in a suburban back yard but the back yard is so peaceful and beautiful, framed in with gorgeous trees, I never realized it. We ended up mountain biking longer than expected and when we got back, Vivien had great recommendations (and discounts) for the hot springs in Rotorua for that night and the best times to go to certain sites (Wai-o-tapu…we would have missed the geyser without her advice). We only spent one night there and the morning we left, Vivien made us a delicious breakfast (including made to order eggs) and then had more great advice for us for our drive up to our next destination (Cathedral Cove). I love Vivien’s design style (very clean, simple, and modern). She and her husband were so helpful and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone and would go out of my way to stay there again!

Hi Minon & Shaun,
Thank you very much for your kind words. We are so pleased to hear your positive experience with us and though it was a short 1 day stay we thoroughly enjoyed hosting you both. We were glad you managed to do the mountain biking tracks even though it was raining. I will email you the Lemon Crunchy Muffins (Vivien's Recipe with the added white chocolate) with few handy tips to make them light and moist. We look forward to hosting you again on your next trip to NZ.

We stayed at B&B @ the Redwoods while we were in Rotorua as part of our honeymoon. Vivien was great and very enthused about her guests, her B&B, her family, and her community. Vivien gave us great breakfasts and great advise on what to do in the area. Perfectly located close to the redwoods, biking trails, geo-thermal spas, downtown Rotorua, great food, and just everything! We really hope we can make another trip to New Zealand and if we do we will certainly stay at B&B @ the Redwoods!
