We spent two nights at this hotel in February. We originally booked only one night through Wotif, but enjoyed sightseeing in the area so much we decided to stay a second night. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and good value for what we paid. The bathroom was a really decent size, and the staff was pretty friendly, even if they were a bit disorganised at times.

For me the big con with this hotel is that there's not much around in the way of restaurants and shops around. (The only restaurant nearby is the Holiday Inn across the street.) It's a bit smelly with the geothermal spots just down the street, but then that's Rotorua. :-) Overall this was a great place to stay.

I see this place has mixed reviews, but I can only comment on our stay, which was just for one night, and we arrived late (10pm). Parking was restricted due to a festival in Rotorua, but I found a place on the street so that wasn't an issue. The room itself was nice enough, and the bed was comfortable. The only slight grumblewas no air con, which surprised me as it wasn't the cheapest place we stayed at in NZ.

There was WiFi which is is based on voucher codes. These are allocated at check in from reception, but as we arrived late the duty manager let us in (reception closes at 8pm) so we needed to appeal to the duty mgr to get us a code, which he did in a very fiendly manner.

Stayed here as part of a two night deal, wouldn't have paid full price for it. We were in a Studio room which was nice enough, clean, big bed, bathroom was fine - although the shower head was a bit broken so water pressure was quite low, did inform the front desk. Absolutely no bench space, so if you want to make breakfast carry everything across to the small dining table on other side of room. Couldn't do dishes...or should we have done them in bathroom sink next to toilet? And no service on Sundays so dishes couldn't be exchanged for clean ones. Noise wasn't too bad. Location was good for us accessing the mountain bike park, otherwise you had to drive to get to any restaurants or supermarkets, although there is a BP garage around the corner. Staff were friendly. The pool area was quite nice too for an evening drink.

Below Par, booked this based on reviews and the name "QUEST"
First Strike - When we arrived we were told Quest has moved out earlier in the month and were under new management now. Called Apollo Hotel . .
Second Strike - The bathroom was not that clean & the bedroom was confined to 4 walls, no windows, no airflow, and smelled like a storage room locked for months. .
Third Strike - Everytime someone uses the elevator, a loud noise breaks through the walls. . Super Annoying, we were told they won't be operational between 2200-0830 hours but on two different occassions we were woken up because of the lifts.
We tried to get out and get to a different hotel but unfortunately given the time of the year were left to live it out . . Most days were spent outside the hotel which was an advantage.
NOT GOING THERE AGAIN !!

Room Tip: Try somewhere else :)

Wifey and I took advantage of a cut price deal for 2 nights. There was nothing negative about our stay, but then nothing to make it stand out from other places we've stayed either. Our room was clean and comfortable, reception friendly and helpful. Good food available across the road at the Holiday Inn, or the Kingsgate around the corner in Fenton Street if you want something more cafe style. A bit of a walk to the city centre (3Km ?) if you haven't got a car or you want a few drinks there. I wonder if they'll see the advantage of free internet, as others in the area do.

Room Tip: Our room at the rear looked over the pool, the rooms on the front of the hotel would have a good vie...

We booked the executive suite (room 204) but as we were staying 4 nights the view of brick wall from the lounge was dark and unpleasant. We swapped to an inferior room which should have been $24 per night cheaper but the hotel felt the 24hour free internet was a worthy exchange and charged us the full executive suite rate anyway!

Our first night was noisy from rowdy neighbours (we were too tired to complain) and the cleaner only folded the toilet roll and gave us an extra shampoo the next day. To clarify, the bed was not made, the carpet not vaccuumed, the towels left untouched. I therfore complained so the next day the towels were changed and bed made but carpet still left unvaccuumed. I complained again and finally had adequate servicing for the final night stay.

I am a Brit paying 50% more per night than other available establishemnets. I expect a better service due to plenty of competition. I didn't even make a big fuss over the sharp nails in the carpet which my 10 month old was crawling about on but to be charged for the most expensive room rate for a smaller room with less than mediocre service is unforgivable.

Asked on departure whether I enjoyed my stay was quite insulting!

Excellent hotel - very clean and professionally laid out, modern and had all the facilities for a very comfortable stay. Staff more than helpful and would have no hesitation to recommend.
Good location to central town.

Room Tip: Room was faultless.
