I stayed with my family (my wife and 2 sons) at the Arista of Rotorua last week. I was very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff and owners. The internet speed was excellent and for once it was really easy to connect. We enjoyed the private spa attached to the room and we were very impressed that even thought the motel was full the rooms were super quiet. Highly recommend staying here

Room Tip: The rooms with the sleeping upstairs lets the kids get to bed early

Thank you so much! we really enjoyed having you stay as well, and as I know you were on business, the fact that you found our internet so good is great! We have worked hard over the past two years to find the perfect system. We really enjoyed meeting your family and your two boys are just lovely! thanks for staying :)

3rd stay in 5 years. Just gets better. Travelling with overseas friends, 2 couples in unit. From check-in to check-out a great experience. Receptionist helpful and friendly. Plenty of helpful information at reception office. Offered complementary local paper. Owner friendly, informative and helpful. Unit spacious and clean with all appliances, TV etc modern and in good order. Watched owner handle difficult guest at reception in a respectful and confident manner. Great value. Will definitely be back and recommend you do too.

Room Tip: Tell owners your needs.

Hi Roly! thanks so much for your lovely comments. We are continuing to refurbish our lovely Motel, we are currently working on our spa pools and we've just had all the windows tinted, so we no longer have 'net' curtains obstructing our views. We've also added ovens to our rooms this year, so we look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Excellent accommodation.

We selected this motel because it was centrally located for all the attractions and we were not disappointed.

We found the facilities of a very high standard, clean and comfortable. The rooms were spacious and allowed easy access to come and go.

Shona the receptionist was exceptionally helpful. She was always on hand and very attentive with a warm welcome and advice on local information and assistance with booking the various attractions. She is a genuine asset nothing was too much trouble.

I would highly recommend this motel.

From the moment we arrived till when we left the owners and staff were super helpfull and the room was fantastic. That was the best overall place we stayed at in New Zealand, we started in Christchurch and ended in Auckland. Well done to the owners

Excellant accommodation. Young ones happy to have the entire upper floor to themselves with their own tv and dvd player. Very tidy and clean. Good selection of dvds available from the office. Only stopping for one night, but will definatley be back for an extended visit. Close to town and main attractions. Spa was great for the missus post tussock classic.

Overall this place was an excellent choice for me, my husband and our teen son. We had space to spread out and the hosts were very nice. It might not be a good choice for everyone so I will list some specifics in hopes of helping someone else decide if it is right for them.

Location was right on the road but still it seemed quiet enough to me. Parking was easy and in front of our door. Our room was huge and clean. And I mean really huge. Since we were staying for several days this was good and meant we could relax without bumping into one another. But for all the space there is 0 privacy. The loft looks down on the main bed and all the sound floats around. You certainly won't be snuggling while your children sleep upstairs. The beds were very comfortable. The towels and bedding were nice and clean. Chairs comfortable. The door to our unit was just a patio sliding door which I found a bit disconcerting. The kitchenette and table were very nice to have and meant we could avoid restaurants when we wanted. We were not overly happy with the internet but as our trip progressed we came to the conclusion that we had been too hard on the Arista on this matter as it seems to be low quality and/or overpriced pretty much everywhere. There were electric fans in the room but we did not need to use them as we found the temperature pleasant. There is one washer and dryer available at some times. I had to wait a fair amount of time to use it but it was not expensive and I was glad to get the grime off of our travelling attire. My only complaint was that the assorted tickets we got booked through them all seemed to end up having issues. most were not a big deal but I think I would suggest booking your own tours. I would certainly stay there again if we were back in Rotorura.

Thank you for your lovely review, we really appreciate the feedback, particularly about our ticketing system as we will have this addressed. With the pikit system its about convenience for the guest and service, so we will be looking at that as we are all about making your stay more comfortable at Arista!
With our WIFI we have, the best, fastest and most user friendly system, available in NZ. We give out 500MB per day free, for most people this is sufficient.

I want to review this hotel as excellent because the owners are so delightful and go to endless lengths to make your stay as good as it can be. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for these lovely people.

But here's the thing... the rooms are really dated. They are plenty big enough for a family (which is definitely a plus) however the lack of airconditioning means that the windows have to be open in warmer weather. This means your stay is always flavoured by that "rotten egg gas" smell so characteristic of Rotorua - and a few flies as well. The open windows also mean traffic noise as the hotel is located right on the major road through town.

The rooms boast an outdoor spa but to tell you the truth it's pretty old and located in a dank little enclosed courtyard. Not appealing at all.

But balanced against all of this is the wonderful hospitality of the hosts. They gave is tips about what to see and even discount vouchers. Super friendly and helpful. So if customer service is more important than a modern hotel room, this place will make you happy. If you aren't roo interested in a chat with the owners and would prefer to pay for a modern air conditioned room, this is definitely not for you.

Would I stay again? Probably not. I think I want air con, no sulphur smell and preferably a lack of flies. But as other reviews show, many people would trade a brand new room for genuine customer service any day.

Hi there, thanks for your review. We are glad you enjoyed our excellent service. This is an area that we really do focus a lot on. We have never advertised that we have air conditioning rooms and can appreciate it would be nice but as mentioned in many reviews before this – not feasible due to the sulphuric environment cost of running these in this corrosive environment. There are a couple of accommodation providers that do offer this but the price will reflect. I guess the smell of Rotorua is just part of the package and experience of Rotorua. We think our rooms aren’t dated but will be receiving a some touch ups after our very busy session. And the spa’s we are looking into the best solution for upgrading / replacing these. Main thing is that they are clean and fully functional and most people love these. Thanks again for your review. Take care.
