Considering that the commercial thermal attractions charge $30+ entrance, we found this a real find. Free to enter, it is a great park in the middle of the city- although the thermal activity areas are fenced off for safety, you can still see a lot. We enjoyed walking amongst the bubbling mud pools, sulohur rich lakes and seeing the steaming pools. There is also a great playground for the little ones to play on and the walkways are beautifully maintained, lovely flower gardens and ample parking. We also found the ground staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. A must visit in rotorua!

Just down the road from our campsite was Kuirua Park. Lots of steaming mud pools. Well worth going to get a feel of live action without paying for it. When we were there Nov 2013 very few people there. Park is huge and well maintained

My family's first trip out was to this park (as we arrived in Rotorua in the afternoon) and it was amazing to see. Our 3 year old was fascinated by all the "smoke" he could see and loved being able to walk around through the bush. It was a nice relaxing walk for all four of us and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of geothermal activity so that you can see what it would be like and whether or not you could cope with the smell on a larger scale - we opted for not going to Te Puia after seeing this because the smell was very overwhelming. But we were glad we got to see this.

I found this park because I was lost but definitely a neat find! I stopped because there was a lot of steam signifying geothermal activity. It was free plus there is plenty of local birds running around the park to boot!

Park has numerous bubbling & steaming pools and mud pits. Great market with local food & vendors on Sat. morning. Spot to put your feet in a thermal heated pool. Watch children carefully. Not the place to let them climb over fences. Pay attention to warning signs. Lots of open space for them to run in.
