“One of the best half-day outings available in Rotorua - great value for money!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2011

Our Forest & Bird group from Central Hawke's Bay were unanimous in their view that this was a very enjoyable and worthwhile outing. Rawiri and Tony were very welcoming and open, and were eager to share the history and culture of the island and its people with us. The fact that their ancestors came from the island made the experience that much more real and significant. Plenty of birds to see, particularly enjoyed seeing the endangered tieke. The island is an actively managed predator-free bush reserve, and will be of interest to anyone involved with conservation and habitat restoration. Rawiri's knowledge and sense of humour were just great to experience - good to see both the serious and humorous sides! The hike to the summit was quite easy, and the view was awesome. Lynette in the office made sure everything went as arranged, and was very helpful. Highly recommended, great value for money.

“Lovely way to spend a morning away from rotorua”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2011

We booked this despite no tripadvisor reviews because it provided a morning away on a boat to an island with a local maori guide to talk us through the island history. Ee didn't want to do the hangi dinner a lot of places have on offer because they went too late and we have a toddler. Rawari was the perfect captain- laid back but informative. He has a gentle manner and sense of humour and we really felt it was a privilege to be allowed on the island with him. Mokoia is a privately owned island with a lot of Maori history, also with a wonderful conservation program. The birdlife are prolific and Rawari introduced us to a number of rare species. We loved our trip and would recommend it to anyone.
