“A perfect spot to relax in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 24 March 2009

We spent two nights in Wai Ora Lakeside Spa Resort and it was one of the best places we stayed at in New Zealand. This brand new resort can boast a beautiful and quiet location along the lake shore just 10 minutes drive from the centre of Rotorua (but far enough to stay away from the overwhelming smell of sulphur). The rooms are modern, immaculately clean and tastefully decorated with a big comfortable bed, TV, tea/coffee facility, complimentary fruits and a nice bathroom with a wide choice of complimentary cosmetics. Breakfasts a la carte are truly delicious (their croissants can compete with the best French ones) and there is nothing nicer than sitting in the sun on the terrace, sipping your morning coffee and staring at the blue surface of the lake. There is a small swimming pool and a spa in the resort, however we didn't have time to enjoy any of them. It is a perfect place for everybody who wants to relax in beautiful surroundings and stay in close proximity to all attractions Rotorua has on offer.

We arrived to New Zealand and went straight to Rotarua and Wai Ora. After three weeks traveling the country, the hospitality we received at Wai Ora is one of the first things to mention when recounting the trip. Bryan was fabulous, and seemed to be a personal concierege! Breakfast was the best I had in NZ! Very comfortable rooms. The property is right on Lake Rotarua creating a great view. Make sure to hit up the hot tub at night for star gazing. I definitely recommend Wai Ora!

Although we did not stay at the resoert, we had the pleasure of dining there on two consecutive evenings. The meals were excellent and the service prompt, attentive and friendly. Definetely recommended.

We stayed for a weekend in one of the Deluxe rooms.
The hotel location is perfect, right by the lake (which does bring Trout Flies, but they don't bite) and a short drive from town/attractions.
The room decor was quite funky & modern, well thought out with nice extra touches like the in room DVD, but we were suprised out how small they were and would have loved a bath (only a shower cubicle).
Like other reviewers I have to say that the food was excellent - my husband had the beef and said it was the best in a long time and I had the (unusual) choice of several really good vegetarian dishes.
The room service is a nice touch as is the fact that there is no room service charge.
We thought that the dining room could do with some work though - at night it is too brightly lit and feels a bit like eating in a friends living room, then in the morning the piped in lift music can grate on the nerves a little.
On the whole I would say that this is a great option for Rotorua, but it does feel a little cold/impersonal for such a small resort - it needs a fresh injection of enthusiasm from the management (who need to think about little things like a bell on the front desk, for when they are not nearby).

As Owners its is diappointing that our management let the resort down which has been addressed by our reinvolvement. The comment on the bright lights in our restaurant was due to not using our sophicated dimming control system correctly which was installed to enhanced our unique and lovely lakeside environment. To our guest ,our sincere thanks for your comments and they certainly have backed up our concerns as we believe in personally hosting our guests and delivering excellent personal service. In respect to the bath ,i just wonder if our management had shown the large spa facilities that are available to all guests during their stay ?

My companion and I had an AMAZING time at the Wai Ora Resort! The grounds are beautiful (so close to the lake!), spa treatments were relaxing and worth every cent and the food was to die for! The facility was only surpassed in brilliance by the friendly and genuinely helpful staff. Will definitely be back for longer next time!
