The motel is in a great location, close to restaurants and Rotorua's many interesting sights. The rooms are not large but adequate and clean. It was, therefore, a pity that the "host" turned out to be a Basil Fawlty character who, despite the fact that free wifi was available, decided that he would limit its use for his guests for reasons best known to himself. Unlike his chatty and very friendly wife he was rather grumpy and having guests staying appeared to be a chore. I notice that other guests have not mentioned this so maybe he was just having an "off" day....

Room Tip: Try to avoid upsetting the owner by not requesting a wifi voucher more than once!

This a well located comfortable and clean motel on the lake shore and five minutes stroll from the excellent restaurant quarter . A great base for exploring Rotoria and beyond . John and Joan could not have been more welcoming and helpful .

Room Tip: best views of the lake from the first floor

Excellent location for access to Lake attractions, and short walk to eating establishments and town centre. We stayed in two ground level units, which were clean and quite roomy. Beds were reasonably comfortable. The units themselves could really do with some upgrades, especially the bathroom in the studio unit. I hate climbing into a bath for a shower!! All in all, it was good value for the two nights we stayed, and the managers were very friendly and helpful.

We booked into Ledwich Lodge because we had enjoyed our stay here 2 years ago. Again we were given a very spacious first-floor motel room with a view of Lake Rotorua. The facilities were very clean and tidy. One really great feature is the motel's location - within easy walking distance of the lake, the restaurant area, the central shops and the QE2 Spa. If you like massages, try the Spa's Aix Massage, where you are expertly massaged while being doused in lovely warm geothermal water
The motel owner John also recommended that we try the nearby Regent Restaurant for a special-occasion meal, and that too certainly lived up to our expectathions

Room Tip: Ask for upstairs for a slightly better view

Good location for Rotorua Lake and town centre, restaurants etc. Bed linen, towels crockery and cookery utensils all very clean. The kitchen and bathroom are shabby and badly in need of refurbishment . The spa bath is disgusting. Compared with similar accommodation, this was very poor value for money.

Ledwich Lodge Motel is situated almost on the Lake edge at the northern end of the CBD. We found it ideal for our purposes. It had good cooking facilities, geothermal heating, plenty of lighting and comfortable beds. The owners were thoughtful in putting out an extra reading lamp when they saw one was needed. Our large room was upstairs so not suitable for anyone who can't handle steps, but they have ground floor rooms too. There was a nice view across the lakeshore park at Otumoetai and the Lake. Easy walking distance to the nearby restaurant district. It's a quiet part of town, so very little traffic noise.

It was great to arrive and find a room / studio comfortable, with big, soft bed, hot tub, good TV, stove and fridge.

We were greeted by the owner John, a charming English gentleman who for many years living in NZ with his wife Joan. Hospitable, upon arrival gave us tips on places we should visit and invited us to a wine on the varanda, which happened again during our stay.

What an interesting person! We learned a lot from him about habits of NZ and we laughed at his somewhat acid humor.

A peculiarity of the motel is that the central heating system is natural, arising from geothermal activities that happen in that exact area. The gases rise from the earth through pipes, leaving the rooms warm.

In those six days that we were there, we relaxed in the pool and slept a lot, but were also very busy with dozens of activities. And for that the location could not be more perfect: right in front of the lake and less than 5 minutes from restaurants, the historic Bath House, the Government Gardens and everything else.

At the end of each day, the pleasant veranda invited us for a drink outdoors, watching the world go by. We recommend this motel a 100%!
