“Luxurious, breath-taking views and charming Alpackas!”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

We stayed at city lights in Feb this year for 2 nights. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful. The room (Kiwi Room) was to die for. Being Swedes, we like our peace and quiet and natural beauty, which is exactly what we got here. Highly recommend the mountain top restaurant nearby (we went back there the second night as well). We recommend this luxurious B&B very highly!

After having a driving and several visits of the day, it is best to have relax at City Lights Lodge, we had a great rest in the deligate and well arranged room. What most comforting after for an exhausted day is the hot water spa, with amazing view from the hill, that is memorable. Besides, the room is equip with nice view from the hill top, that was fasinating. Thank you.

patriquetan - thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hope you will come back and visit us again one day. We are happy you liked our clean room with great views. We are working on improving our signage in the very near future. We do agree that you do need a car if you are staying with us as we are about 10 minutes drive from the town centre. Thanks again.

I and my wife stayed in City Lights Lodge in late Feb. We're amazed by the cleanliness of the room despite a room with a relatively small size. The owner was very nice and we did enjoy the breakfast very much as we seldom manage to enjoy a breakfast with such family feeling and good chat. Another highlight is that the alpaca/goat/cat/dog in the lodge are all lovely.

The scenery from the balcony of the lodge is also stunning. However, a pitfall is that it's a bit difficult to find despite the presence of some signs of direction. It's also located a bit far away from the central rotorua and therefore it would be very inconvenient if traveling without a car or without pick-up service from some other local tour company.

Overall, we think it definitely worths the price!

Tony N - thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed our wonderful views, breakfasts and clean room. The animals tend to be popular with most of our guests and Jelly loves to bark at new guests. You are correct in saying that we are not in the centre of town and guests do need to have their own car to be able to enjoy our views over the city as well as be able to visit the numerous attractions that Rotorua has to offer. We are only 8 minutes drive into the city centre, but we feel rural, being surrounded by green countryside with our wonderful views. We hope you will come and visit us again one day, until then, travel safely.

Naomi and Jim met us with a welcome cup of tea and a friendly chat. Their home is very comfortable with stunning views. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made us feel very relaxed. They gave advice on where to visit and eat and booked trips and meals for guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

We loved staying at the lovely new cottage at City Lights.
Beautiful view of Rotorua. Owner Naomi, left breakfast items for us in the fridge, which was much appreciated.
We loved having the convenience of kitchen and also laundry machine and dryer. Cottage is only minutes from Rotorua. Wish we could have stayed longer. perfect for a family of 4.

This is a beautiful place to stay in Rotorua, right above the town with wonderful views. Naomi and Jim have a unique high spec. place and know how to treat their guests. They make you feel at home with a cup of tea when you arrive and help you with their local knowledge of where to go and what to see.
Our room was spacious and had robes as well as everything you might need for our stay.
Our booking included a full breakfast which actually turned out to be a basic continental breakfast with fruits and yoghurt, no offers of something cooked which we had at all our other B&B's. On reading their website on our return, it was an optional extra. They obviously forgot that it had been booked! Perhaps we should have said something!

marriedmembers - thank you so much for your lovely review. I am so sorry that we didn't notice that your booking included cooked breakfast - we would have more than happy to do this for you had you mentioned it - sorry. We are glad though, that you enjoyed our room with amenities and hospitality. We do hope you will get a chance to come back and visit us - cooked breakfasts will be lavished on you. Many thanks. Very nice B&B with a great view over the city of Rotorua. The suite was very spacious and well-equipped. Naomie was very welcoming and we spent a great time in the thermal park that she recommended us.

Kaju17 - thank you so much for your lovely review. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and loved the views as much as we do. We only recommend places that we like ourselves and the geothermal parks around Rotorua are very pretty to see. We hope you will visit us again one day, until then, travel safely.
