“nothing special, but great location”
Reviewed 18 November 2012

i spend 3 nights here in aug end, the 1st night i stayed in female dorm room which i provide the pic. the room is very crowd and i can't open my lugagge. others 5 roommates were the helpers worked in the bbh. they just occupied all good spots and every spaces u can see.
the owners and helpers were not friendly and helpful, but consider the room price and bbh location, i think it is worthy and just average choice.

Room Tip: try private room, just cost more few bucks

I stayed at this hostel recently. I couldn't have had a better stay. Run by a lovely couple who couldn't be more helpful. The dorm rooms have single beds, rather than bunks. And there are heaters all through the hostel so you never feel the cold. The kitchen is big, with plenty of hobs and sinks. There is a TV room & separate quiet room, with computers. Rental of DVDs is free. I notice that someone has said there are no showers. Well, I found plenty. Downstairs there is separate showers for men & ladies (2 showers in each), plus I found a shower room upstairs, along with 2 bathrooms with baths in them. You never need be dirty here!

Booked for 3 nights without any personal recommendation for a double room with shared bath room. The room was spacious and clean with plenty of storage. Given that I stayed during a bit of a cold snap the central heating was also a nice touch. Staff were courteous and helpful and made the stay a pleasure.

My only other point would be that there do not seem to be any showers at the hostel only baths. Not a problem for myself but bear it in mind.

A very cosy hostel even in winter, ran by a lovely couple who will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy Rotorua and their hostel. The kitchen was big and the tv room felt like home! The lack of bunks in the rooms was a welcome change and meant the rooms were very large with large windows, but still warm! I would 100% recommend and wish I could go back!

Stayed here in July for 5 nights, which is quite many days in Rotorua but girlfriend had a cold and we needed to stop for few days. This turned out to be perfect place. Located only 5 minutes walk to city center and 5 min to polynesia spa. Centreally heated which was nice during cold nights outside. Owners Cath & Neil were very helpful with stuff to see around town, and if you have a car theres a few more options just outside town. Its a pretty simple hostel, but central, clean, and warm. All that we needed. Definietly reccommend.

We stayed here for 5 nights. The Central Backpackers is run by a very nice couple, always willing to help with advise. Our room came with king size bed. Although bathrooms & showers (separate for men & women) were shared it was never a problem. TV area is a little small but it has a large kitchen and the people who stayed there always kept it clean. There is enough parking for everyone. Internet is not free & you also have to pay for towels. Washer & dryer are in a separate building, right behind the main building. You can "rent" a movie for free from the front desk.
The Backpackers is ideally located near The Polynesian Spa and only about 50 yds from the main street - Fenton Road. Lake Rotorua is about 5 minutes by car and 20-25 minute walk.
Pak 'n Save is 10 minute walk one-way. Prices in July are very reasonable. Rooms have a built-in heater so rooms are always warm especially now. I highly recommend Rotorua Central Backpackers.

Clean and well-maintained, this backpackers is surely a great choice for any travellers. And the best thing about the dorm rooms are the beds! It is always nice to come back from a day of travel or sightseeing to a nice bed... not a bunk! Prices are very reasonable and I had a great time on my two nights of stay. Wish it was longer!
