Our school group stayed here overnight during a two-week self-booked tour of Australia and New Zealand. High school students can be difficult to please, but everyone in our group gave this hotel top ratings! Rooms are spacious, immaculately clean, equipped with fridge, and nicely furnished. There is also free internet. Everyone got a good night's sleep; we did not hear any noise at night from the neighboring gas (petrol) station. The manager, Tim, spared no effort to provide help and directions. (His shortcut directions to Otorohanga the next morning saved us valuable time in our journey.) To top it all off, the rates are much lower than competitor hotels in this town, with no compromise in quality.

Room Tip: Call Tim directly for the best deal.

I stayed here while visiting Rotorua. There were other places that provided views of the geysers, but I decided to stay here because it was one of the few places that advertised free wireless internet, and it actually had free wireless internet. The owner was extremely helpful, and gladly made some recommendations as to what I should visit. The room was clean, and had a kitchenette. There was a gas station nearby where snacks could be gotten, and food is not too far away. The smell is not due to the hotel, but to the city in general. The geothermal setting has a strong sulfur scent which is unavoidable!

This motel is good value; it is well positioned on the main road into town. The rooms are clean, airy and well equipped, - fridge, microwave, iron etc. I particularly liked the fact that the kitchen was in a vestibule, with an outside door,so that cooking smells did not hang about the bedroom area.. There are distant views of he lake and closer views of other geothermic activity. The petrol station is an obvious presence, but it does provide a Wild Bean Cafe and a convenience store. The Wi-fi really is free and speedy. No rip off telephone charges calling to UK from the room.
If we are lucky enough to come back to NZ this motel will be on our visit again list.

Room Tip: Ignore petrol station .Don't prejudge.

We stayed here with the family. The lodge is right next to a huge BP petrol station which means a lot of truck noise throughout the day. The climate was very hot when we were there and the lodge did not have air con or fan's which meant we had to leave the windows open. This meant bugs and a lot of noise from the main road and petrol station.

Definitely worth paying a little more for more ammenities and nicer decor in a place where you can sleep at night and relax.

I must say that the owners were very nice and helpful though.

This motel benefits by being close to the iconic geothermal area of Whakarewarewa and immediately opposite a beautiful golf course. Plus it benefits from views over the city to the lake. The garage can cause some noise but most guests see it as a positive because of its Wild Bean cafe and convenience shopping. We are sorry that this guest felt he/she had to stay in all day and experience some truck noise. That noise is not an issue in the evening or at night usually. The guest makes a good point about air conditioning though and if I raised my prices by 25% we may be able to pay for its installation. However my occupancy rates would probably drop so that puts us in a difficult position. We will continue to make improvements towards better guest comfort where and when economics allow. Because of Rotorua's distinct atmosphere there are problems with the lifetime of air conditioning units by the way.
