My reviews and others show New Zealand is the country of superlatives. It is all so beautiful and relaxed, and it is filled with people who genuinely enjoy other people and go into the business of making those other people happy. So let me introduce Mick and Teresa. You would have thought we were the most interesting people in the world, (well, I may be) they were so interested in us and our lives.

Fortunately my planning allowed for 5 nights and four & half days at this B & B. Mick picked us up at the airport with a sign at the gate which was another first for me.
A quick tour through town and out to the little farm Mokoia Downs for our massages with Anja. She saved the holiday for me by untying my shoulder blades right there on the property. We went to the Mitai Maori Villiage that night; they will pick you up/take you back to the B&B.

Teresa had desserts and cookies for us every day. Our breakfasts were both cold and hot dishes which were delicious. They helped plan our three terrifying days of driving (the only days I had not planned in advance). Mick was so nice to take us to town/pick us up when we didn't have the car. It does pay to travel off season!

I know it sounds more like a love letter than a review but what can I say?

Room Tip: We shared the two bedroom suite with one bath. It was nice that the bath was in the hall way and did not open up onto the bedrooms. Did not get a chance to peek in the other rooms. Quiet and dark.

Mokoia Downs offer a beautiful rural B&B, where the hosts naturally show what warm hospitality and true personal interest is all about.
Although we stayed only one night, we will remember this vey quiet country setting for the fresh eggs and agricultural produce, including the home brewed whisky/ spirits/ the rich and amply breakfast/ the well advised early morning walk in the lovely nearby Hamurana Springs Reserve.
We, Anki and René van Well from The Hague in the Netherlands, therefore owe many thanks to Teresa and Mick.

Room Tip: Room on the pool side provides for a good night sleep.

We were planning to stay 2 nights but stayed 4! The home cooked breakfast was plentiful and amazing with freshly made smoothies and home made muesli and fruit salad. Plus home baked bread. I'm not a big bread eater but couldn't resist the warm bread straight from the bread maker :)
Mick and Teresa are super friendly and generous. They really enjoy what they do which makes all the difference.
Like other reviews have mentioned, it is the special touches that make this a really unique experience. I mentioned my love for camomile tea so came home and found a new box next to the kettle in the room, along with the daily baking. (cookies or carrot cake- yum!)
The WIFI worked well and Mick kept the fire blazing the whole time.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Taranaki room which is small but the rest of the place is spacious and this room has it's own private entrance but also entrance into the dining room for breakfast.

We had a great two-night stay in March. Stayed in the detached room with private bathroom. The owners Mick and Teresa were terrific hosts -- perfectly walking the line between being present and available, and giving us our space to enjoy the property on our own. Their recommendations for what to see and do in Rotorua were spot on. Breakfasts were incredible. Really highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: We liked the detached room with en suite bathroom. It has a fridge, a couch, and a charmingly natural wake-up call in the friendly ducks that waddle around and quack every morning.

It was a very good travel experience in Rotorua. The house is very close to the lake and easy to find. We got many useful recommendations from hosts. The room is very clean, the breakfast
is healthy and hearty. You can take some time to stay in their library corner and feel the sunshine through their glass roof.

Room Tip: nearby the lake
