Doolans is one of the most scenic and serene B&B's we have ever experienced. From the breathtaking views to the evening chats with Christine, every day has been delightful! Christine's gorgeous gardens are such a stunning wonderland. Wish we could have stayed longer! This was the perfect remedy for weary city folk seeking a peaceful retreat. Thanks Christine. Alizah

We had two nights with Christine and our stay was made even better with a combination of both Blue Skies one day and then Storms and rain the next. Perfect combination for walks and sightseeing then sitting by the fire when the weather closed in. Highly recommended for anyone from anywhere.

We stayed here two nights in February and wished we had more time to stay longer. If you are from NZ, Australia and would like get away to a peaceful setting with great views then visit Doolan's Country Retreat. Christine is a friendly host who will help you plan outings or if you prefer you can just sit ouside and enjoy the view of the rolling hills and lake. Farm animals included. The breakfasts are delicious. As Canadians we found this to be the best B and B in New Zealand. Excellent value for the price. We will return someday.

What a wonderful respite! Christine is such a lovely person and so much fun to visit. We felt right at home from the beginning. Her home is so contemporary for a farm, but she does have 4 mules and 2 pigs! In the evening it was so nice to sit in her large open area by the fireplace and visit with her and other guests as we nibbled on her gracious offerings after a busy day. Rooms were so clean and comfortable and breakfast was wonderful. Just so perfect. Not a hotel but home. She is so knowledgeable about the stars and pointed out ones we never had seen.
Thank you Christine for a lovely visit in a 5 star home..

Everything was perfect at Doolan's Country Retreat! The views are stunning, the home is immaculate, the breakfast fantastic and Christine is an absolute joy. We really wished that we had booked more than 2 nights so we could spend more time with Christine and her donkeys. When we arrived, I immediately asked about the donkeys because I am an animal lover. Within minutes Christine was cutting up fruit so I could feed the animals.

I am generally not one to enjoy B&B accommodations more than hotel stays, but this was certainly an exception. In our 12 nights in New Zealand, we enjoyed our stay at Doolan's Country Retreat even more than the nights at the Hilton hotels in Auckland and Queenstown! Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the home inside or out, but it was beautiful.

We were treated to an absolutely gorgeous sunrise over the lake on our last morning there, and then after breakfast on the patio, we were enjoying our conversation with Christine and her friend so much that we nearly missed our flight. We hated to leave!

Absolutely, positively the best B&B stay I've had and I wholeheartedly recommend Doolan's to anyone looking to stay near Rotorua.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Quail Room and it was perfect!

Christine provides a sanctuary retreat with a breath taking view to be envied by any five star in the area. She has knowledge leading from 1960's to present of the area. Ask her anything and she knows all locale knowledge and customs. Familiar with New Zealand in such detail she will guide you into wise choices in travel timing and events. Highly recommended for discrete outings and quiet evenings alone.

This is a beautiful house, run by a charming host, that sits on the top of a hill. The views are breathaking by day and by night; and Christine will tell you stories about the stars. Breakfast was delicious; the rooms were nicely appointed and very clean. The showers had good water pressure and anything we needed was available. You could get lost walking the grounds. Christine helped us make the most of our trip to Rotorua with suggestions for sights to see there and throughout New Zealand. We stayed only two nights and could have stayed much longer; it was sad to say goodbye to Christine.
