We, unfortunately, stayed only one night with Christine at Doolan's Country Retreat, located just a brief drive from Rotorua. This would have been a terrific place to stay longer both to see the local sights and soak up Christine's hospitality! We and our two friends joined another homestay couple in spending a delightful evening sharing wine and dinner, walking around the large and gorgeous grounds, enjoying the panoramic view, and feeding Christine's four pet donkeys. Our hostess even took us outside after dark to acquaint us with the southern constellations. A delightful stay in all respects. We can't recommend Doolan's highly enough. You won't feel more comfortable or welcome anywhere!

How many B&Bs start with a 200 yard agrapanthus lined driveway to a hilltop setting with stunning views. We were greeted by Christine, our charming host and shown to a large room with lots of storage for suitcases.
We were later joined by 4 other guests and enjoyed a relaxed evening feeding the quail and star gazing over a glass of wine.
A stay here is not to be missed

We stayed at Christine's lovely B&B for one night only and found it hard to part with the beauty of her extensive garden paradise, the comfort of her great Buckminster Fuller-ish octagonal house and the gorgeous views both present across Lake Rotorua. Christine makes her guests feel right at home and we would like to thank her for this honor!

A one of a kind farm and B&B experience with a darling hostess, fresh picked herbs and fruit with an optional 6 star dinner. The grounds are a manicured ten acre hilltop with views to the mountains, lakes and stars. The hostess is gracious and instantly makes you feel wonderful and attended to, with engaging friendliness. We were given guided stories, Greek mythology, and navigation through the southern star constellations. We had the best time of our entire 21 day trip at Doolan's and wish we could have stayed longer!

Christine's country retreat is an oasis of beauty. We only had one night there, but she welcomed us with open arms, a wealth of information on the area, and a lovely room with a very comfortable bed.Everything was spotless. She had previously booked Mitai for us, which was a very fun and memorable night-touristy, but very well done. We also went on the Rainbow Springs tour afterwards, which in retrospect we would not have done. We did see 3 kiwis though which was interesting,Back at Doolan's we got to feed her 4 donkeys, and if not for the deluge of rain we had would have toured her absolutely beautiful gardens. She also designs floral arrangements and showed me a photo book of her work;most of the flowers she picks from her own gardens. We saw a family of quail that visits. Her other guests were an interesting Swiss couple who were there for a few days-she spent alot of time showing them detailed maps, guide books, and giving them advice for their longer stay. Her continental breakfast was yummy, with muesli, cereals, jams, a nice assortment of fruit and breads. You can tell Christine loves meeting people, and when you leave it is with the hope you will return. Thank you Christine!

Arriving at Doolan's Country Retreat after traveling and staying in numerous cities was a breath of fresh air! It was very convenient because it was a short drive to Rotorua, but it is surrounded by miles of beautiful scenery and farms, with the lake and mountain in the distance. Christine is a wonderful host-she is very helpful and enjoys star gazing with her guests. There is lovely bird watching and friendly donkeys on site. This B&B is a wonderful way to relax inbetween sight seeing! It was our favorite B&B!!

We loved staying here and can't recommend it highly enough. Christine was so welcoming and we felt like we had known her for years. We loved meeting her four donkeys and feeding them each day and wandering around her lovely gardens. She definitely went that extra mile and we were very sorry to leave. We were very grateful to her for letting us stay an extra night due to bad weather. We felt that being a few k out of Rotorua was a positive advantage. The house is beautiful and the room very comfortably furnished. Sittting outside looking at the stars was fantastic.
