“Awesome Duck Driver and Rotorua Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2014

What to do on a rainy day in Rotorua - join a Duck Tour around Rotorua.

Our tour guide had such amazing stories to tell as we journeyed around, entertaining the children, entertaining the adults and put the fun into the 2 hour journey. Great local knowledge and was great to see different parts of the fabulous geothermal city.

Most annoying sound - DUCK HORNS !!!!
Highly recommend doing this tour even though it is a bit pricier than other things you can do.

“Fantastic Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

We were in port off of the cruise ship and had booked this tour in advance. We had a wonderful, beautiful day weather wise. Tour was everything that was advertised - really enjoyed the trip around the lake and the stop at the Skyride - got to use the luge (for the first time for some of us) many times. Highly recommend this tour.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

We almost didn't do this tour. The advertising pictures of people with duck bills in their mouths and the cost of $65 each for 90 minutes put us off. But, we did want to see the Lakes and we had limited time, so we went for it. I'm so glad we did.
Our guide was great. Funny, friendly and extremely informative. We learned so much about the area, it's history and current status while laughing and having fun. Tour guides are often banal or overly cheesy. This was an exception. We genuinely enjoyed ourself.
And, then, there is the Duck. A 70 year old WWII amphibious troop carrier. I never thought I'd be so excited about driving off the land into the water and then floating away. It was fantastic.
My only regret is that we didn't do the 2 hour option.
Do yourself a favour and take the Duck. Even if the weather is poor, which it was when we went, the trip is still worth it.

“Fun tour, but avoid the booking office on Fenton nr Hinemoa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

Cheesy fun, and a nice way to get out and see some of the nearby lakes while hearing about local history. Our driver was informative and fun, and we saw some beautiful scenery.

Best to call them directly to book, and note that the tour starts at the big I-Site on Fenton Street, not at the booking office a few blocks up the street which seems to be a fountain of misinformation - avoid it. We stopped in there in the morning and were told that there was a 90-minute tour at 11 and 1, and a 3:00 tour which was the 2-hour version. Later we called the number on their brochure to book it, and were told it really started at 3:30 and asked if we wanted the 90-minute or 2-hour tour, so apparently there was a choice of either. Then, when we showed up at the booking office thinking that was the starting point (and there was a Duck parked outside), the gal inside said no, if we hadn't arranged a pickup we could drive over to the starting point on Old Taupo Road - she gave us an address and even drew a map. And she said not to worry, we had time as it didn't start till 4. I have no idea what she was directing us to, but as we were dashing back to our car I called the phone number again and was told I'd been given bad information, so we needed to backtrack to Fenton and they'd advise the driver to wait for us. It was fun once we got there, but this was really aggravating.

Hello

Thank you for your response regarding the tour. It sounds like your experience when on the Duck was a good one which is great.

The store experience though not so good. We share this store with another Rotorua operator and it sounds like you were told to go to the other attractions departure which was for 4pm. This obviously occurred due to break down in communication when you were in the store. The girl obviously thought that you were booked with the other attraction. I have had a chat with the store girls to ensure they clearly understand which tour clients are on before sending them off.
