Return visit here, and still one of the nicest spots in the country!
Pity about the understaffed, underperforming, worn-out hotel. If only they'd lift their game this could be a stunner. Internet is non-existant, there's never anyone around to staff the bar, and the restaurant seems to be run by one girl - who's great - but run off her feet. Rooms are tiny, over-furnished and with paper-thin walls - literally hear your neighbours snoring!
Such as shame, but this place appears to be on a slide ….

The location was awesome - the lakeside setting is simply amazing. It's a bit far from the city, but that's exactly what we were looking for. The room was fine, very average for NZ motel standards. There were heaters in the room, but no A/C. We stayed on top level, and the cigarette smoke from the patio below of our room was coming inside our room. No other complaints about the room. The restaurant was rather overpriced, the windows filthy with cobwebs and greasy fingerprint mark. Service slow, even for a relaxed holiday.

Room Tip: Lower levels are better because you can sit on the patio. Top levels have extra-tiny balconies. No e...

My husband booked this hotel after seeing a deal on the internet. We ended up booking direct with the hotel with a 3 for 2 night deal.
Most of my comments are positive -

Pros - The reception staff were great - very helpful. The room was clean and a great layout. Nice bath - deep.
We ate breakfast and dinner once during our stay. The wait staff were polite and helpful. Food was good but maybe a little overpriced.
The pool was an excellent way of cooling down - which was very welcome as it was a hot weekend but too small to swim in. It would be great for litlle kiddies as there is a shallow part which has a rail to stop kids from straying into the main part.

Cons - hotel is dated so bits of it don't look too flash but we knew that before we went and it really didn't matter as it was clean and well maintained.
No aircon!!!! But if you can cope with this then its a great value destination.
Food a little overpriced - eg $26 for a cooked breakfast
Bed a bit bouncy, pillows a bit flat

Room Tip: We had a 1st floor lake view room which had a beautiful view - would recommend these types!

Go and find yourself a nice motel on Rotorua. This place has bad "I don't care staff". They expect you to pay $5 for a packet of plunger coffee which you get as standard everywhere else in NZ. Overall a let down.

Value for money. Great location. Comfortable, clean rooms. These could do with an upgrade, but more than adequate for a comfortable stay. Good buffet breakfast, phone hotel for best inclusive deal. A little tired in areas, I hope they get this sorted. Good launching ramp for the boat and jetty to tie up to for duration of stay. A visit to the hot pools is well worth it.
