“Underwhelmed”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 via mobile

We were tempted in by the signs and upon arrival found a shop selling an assortment of blueberry products but not much character. Although there were many different items to purchase, there was no positive feel to the place and I didn't learn anything more about blueberries than when I arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Mamaku Blue. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us. Mamaku Blue Blueberry Experience is a complex including a Function Room, a shop full of specialty blueberry products made on site and also a Blueberry Cafe for customers to enjoy a Blueberry delight ie pancakes, pies, muffins or a real fruit ice cream we also have small Museum featuring the districts farming and forestry history. To learn more there is a tour of the orchard and factory, which needs to be booked prior, where you can learn a lot about the blueberries and Mamaku Blue. “Glad we stopped off here, great place for lunch”
Reviewed 7 February 2013 via mobile

We decided to not have lunch in Rotorua instead driving out of town to try the blueberry winery & farm. They have the menu on their website so we already knew the menu was not extensive.

Upon arrival you enter a room where you are welcome to do some taste testing of fruit wines, jams etc - the blueberry juice is delicious. We purchased a bottle of juice and a boysenberry wine. this area was filled will people from a bus tour

We had lunch on the outside deck with umbrellas open- it was refreshing as no sulphur smell and views over the blueberry farm. We were the only ones dining.
There is a small box with some toys in the dining room- our kids were able to play inside within view from the deck.

3 of our party ordered the venison pie with blueberry and said it was great. The scones were very nice with blueberry (of course) and the crepes were a generous serving smothered with blueberries. Love how they incorporated blueberries into the menu. My son ordered a kids blueberry ice cream $3 it was more adult size! They only offer plunger coffee which was unfortunate. We found the service very friendly.

“Good light lunch with a unique winery experience”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

We had lunch at the Blueberry Cafe as part of a 20-person tour and tasting of the winery. The food was excellently prepared but on the light side. Leave your appetite at home. We had a choice of either cold or hot ham & cheese sandwich in a croissant. The croissant was perfect - flaky and tender and there was ample meat & cheese, nicely melted. The special touch, though was the blueberry chutney spread on the sandwich. It was so good we brought home several jars. The service, though was rather stiff and inflexible.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Mamaku Blue. We are pleased to hear that you did enjoy your time with us and thank you for your comments. As you arrived with a group your lunch was pre-ordered and the organizer would have chosen the croissant for your whole group, however you would have been welcome to order something else from our cafe. As we are a blueberry experience our Menu is created with touch of blueberries or gooseberries grown on our property. You can order online your favourite chutney or other home made preserves and much more. We hope to see you again.
