The price for a luxury room is too expensive for what the room actually is. Right outside the lake, not as close to the main street to the restaurants and bars but it is a nice walk along the waterfront.
Has private spas outside for use.

We are regular guests at the Sudima and is a family favourite for weekends in Rotorua. The hotel is close to everything, next to the Polynesian pools and Blue baths. The Family suite is great with a separate room and bathroom for the kids.

The kids love the buffet breakfast (very clean and great selection) and the Hotel's hot pool and Spa's. Check-in is easy and the staff have always been so helpful with advice on different attractions. Reading a few reviews people have commented on the sulphur smell, hey that's Rotorua and nothing to do with the hotel.(the kids know they are holiday when the can smell Rotorua)

I have stayed at this hotel last year's August for about a week. Though the hotel is a bit old, the rooms are spacious and clean. It is located in a calm area of Rotorua, facing the Lake Rotorua. If you walk by the lake, you may feel a strong sulphur small, which for those who do not know, resembles sewage. But this is due to the natural hot springs, releasing those gases at various points in the lake. Lots of famous hot spring resorts are located nearby and you can enjoy yourself. The hotel has thermal pools of different sizes, and one just needs to for the key at the reception. No sulphur small there.
The city is small and is basically a tourist spot, with many souvenir shops one after another, just 45 min flight from Auckland.

My booking at the Sudima in Rotorua was very last minute so to be fair I didn't spend a lot of time researching my options. The Sudima website looked promising however and away my family went to spend a couple of nights there for a short school holiday stay. When arriving in the rooms my first feeling was that of disappointment. The rooms were dated, the TVs are from last decade and everything was very basic, Sky TV is only available in the bar area. I went down to check the heated pool out and yet again felt the same disappointment. It was a small dimly lit inside pool enclosed in brick walls. It lacked any vibrant Rotorua feeling.
Luckily friends of mine were at a nearby hotel where we were able to use their lovely outside thermal pool.

I wanted to leave and find alternative accommodation immediately but after a few phone calls I discovered this would prove difficult.
On the whole my experience in the hotel was very average. On a more positive note, the staff were friendly and the showers were good. In summary this place ONLY makes a good no-alternative option....

From this large hotel along the lake, one can walk to downtown or to the gardens. The Polynesian spa is across the street. Lake-facing rooms have good views of the lake and Sulphur Bay – and accompanying ‘smells’ depending on the breeze. That air can also tarnish jewelry. We stayed in one of the older rooms, but it was fine. The complimentary spa toiletries were a treat. Internet speed is faster in hallway, especially near elevators.

In general, all of the Rotorua area smells like sulfur. The closer you are to the water the stronger the smell. That doesn't reflect upon the hotels, its just the way it is due to the volcanic activity. The Sudima hotel was very comfortable. We were in one of the older rooms but it was still great. Decor was a bit dated but that doesn't bother me. It had a fridge and plenty of space for the two of us. Close to everything in town, walkable distances.

We stayed in obviously one of the refurbished rooms, as the building that reception in, their rooms were completely different, so far different you could pass it as a separate hotel!

The hotel put on a Maori Hangi dinner for us & a show, which was absolutely amazing.
The boys in our group got the chance to go up on stage and learn the Haka which was something worth getting on video!

The beds were like heaven, and the shower was amazing. Definately one of the nicest places we stayed at durning the trip (however I couldnt say the same for the ones in the other building!)

Room Tip: Don't get a room in the same building as the reception area! We stayed in one of the newly refur...
