“A nice change from bland hotels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

Beautiful old building with rooms facing out onto an outside covered verandah. It's so far removed from the bland hotel chains, it feels really special. The room reminded me of a well-to-do grandma's guest bedroom :) – Floral patterned carpets and curtains, and old fashioned fittings as befitting the style of the hotel, but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was in a very ornate dining room and we were served by a very friendly and helpful waiter. You kind of feel you're in another era. Loved it, would go back.

Room Tip: It's a 2 storey building with no lift, if you have difficulty walking you may wish to book a roo...

We had the pleasure of staying two nights at this Hotel to celebrate my Husbands 79th Birthday and could not fault it. We were upgraded to a lovely downstairs room because my Husband coul'dnt climb the stairs. The Restaurants and the overall service and meals were excellent and the pools very enjoyable and I must say the bathrobes provided were so lovely and soft.Everything about our stay was wonderful and we will definitely return and recommend it to everyone.

The hotel is very old fashioned but very boutique. The service is nothing but very high quality. We were welcomed in to the hotel shown quickly around and then shown into our room.
the room was nice and comfortable.
The restaurant is quite flash but we did not feel excluded at all and the waiter/host was very welcoming
there is a bit of road noise at night but nothing major. The TV is positioned in a weird place
all is all it was a very nice stay

The hotel is very unique and i loved the decor. The staff were lovely. However each and every noise the person in the room next to us made we could hear all night. TV, Toilet, Coughing etc. Major let down and maybe it was 5 star 70 years ago....

Nice heritage hotel, bit on the dated side. But then that is its charm, after all it has been around for 60-70 years. Nice amenities, good restaurant, attentative and friendly staff. Very well located to central downtown. Would stay again

Room Tip: Rooms at the back on west side are quieter

Our tour operator had booked us into the Princes gate hotel as part o our 3 week tour of NZ, Brett and his staff could not have been more helpful or efficient in accommodating all 45 of the party, great hotel, friendly staff, have already instructed our tour company to book us in again in 2013 if our trip stops at Rotorua. Thanks Brett, we had a great time and can't wait to come back
