“Ok but may not be my future first choice”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

We had a weekend at the Millennium using a voucher for the accommodation, which included breakfast. It is quite a nice hotel, but it is ageing a little. Location is great, near the centre of town providing both easy walking access and easy driving access when heading out to do things. What I didn't like: all the plugs in the rooms were near the floor and I couldn't plug my phone charger in to them (needed a few cm clearance below the plug)! Old style TV (they haven't heard of LCD yet). The place is often used by conferences, and the coastguard convention was on whilst I was there - very noisy around the pool but we used a separate restaurant so it was ok. Parking is a problem - all the carparks in the hotel were used, but there is plenty of free parking on the streets nearby. WiFi only works in the lobby (20 mins for free) - no WiFi in the rooms. Check-in and check-out was pretty smooth, though presenting a voucher for accommodation caused some uncertainty by the staff. Nothing really to complain about, but would I choose to stay there again?

We spent four nights on the 5th floor Club Room accommodation. We were treated well the moment we arrived by the Concierge and Reception. Rex in the Club lounge is totally professional and looked after us very well over a continental breakfast and later pre dinner drinks and nibbles, he is most knowledgeable about what to do in the area, a delightful man . We enjoyed sitting in the downstairs lounge and also had a few night caps at the bar, we were very impressed with the friendly staff. We highly recommend the Club rooms to anyone contemplating a good room with balcony overlooking the lake. We will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Club Rooms are great with balconies and views over the lake.

it was a nice change to meet a waiter we could talk to and have a laugh with. Peter from the nikau room was brilliant.

the hotel is feeling a but tired and some surfaces just need a quick replace -ie the chairs in the rooms.

and the breakfast buffet felt like I was eating breakfast in the 1990's. some one should pop down to rydges in Wellington to see how to do a decent breakfast buffet setup in nz.

overall it was a lovely weekend though :)

Stayed one night at Millennium Rotorua. Room a little tired. Staff okay but have experienced better - perhaps they weren't trained to the standard of Millennium? Stand out staff member was Robert in the restaurant - outgoing and pleasant.
Roast meal was nice on the Sunday night and reasonably priced at under $20.00.
The internal courtyard is very nice - punga trees etc.
Only found the swimming pool on the morning we were having breakfast.
Not sure that I would stay there again ie better value for money accommodation is offered in Rotorua.
Breakfast was disappointing for this standard of hotel - lacked variety - no porridge, no Bircher museli.
Charged $4 fee to pay by credit card (no matter how small or large the account).
Accommodation is very close to popular Polynesian Spa pools and Rotorua Museum - both worth a visit, just a short 5 minute walk away.

We stayed here for the second time this year. The venue is handy to the Sports Centre behind the Museum (walking distance) and walking distance to the Polynesian Spa. The rooms contain everything you need, although the beds are a little hard to sleep on. The hotel was busier than expected with a conference on over the weekend we stayed, but it added to the atmosphere. The bar is a comfortable place to sit and have a drink and a bar snack. There are 2 lovely spa pools tucked away in the spa area and a large heated outdoor covered pool. My 11 year old daughter enjoyed staying here with us. We had opted for one of the special offers for our stay which gave us 50% off our visit to the Polynesian Spa for the family. Some friends that also stayed here commented that the breakfast buffet selection had reduced and that the food wasn't as tasty as it has been in the past.

Room Tip: A room with a sliding door and terrace creates more room space

We used to holiday at the Millenium Hotel regularly when the children were young so now they are all adults it was decided to go back for a family reunion. The hotel has not changed much. It is still comfortable with good sized rooms. There have been some refurbishment however the best aspect of the hotel is the attitude of the staff. From the reservation, reception and restaurant staff all were cheerful and helpful and did all they could to make our stay great. I would particularly like to mention Jo on reception whose customer service was brilliant. Thank you all.

Had evening meal at Restaurant Nikau on the 1st of September 2012, I just wanted to say the food selection is great and the food tastes even better, but most of all, I wanted to mention how great the customer service was at the Millennium Hotel from all the staff we interacted with, but most impressive was Robert and Peter at the restaurant. They made our experience really enjoyable. Usually I feel that New Zealanders' have a lot more room for improvement in terms of "customer service ", however, I'm of the opinion that something is right in the food and beverage department at the Millennium Rotorua as the customer service was outstanding. Thank you all.
