“Great family accommodation ”
Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

Our boys were so excited about staying in a proper hotel.

The first positive experience was the helpfulness of their staff when finding adjoining rooms for us when we had booked on line indirectly.

The rooms were brilliantly equipped and the swimming pool complex is perfect for families.

The breakfast buffet is also recommended. Nothing out of the ordinary which wasn't expected but good reliable spread.

And the location and parking is perfect!

I enjoy staying here. Love the location, close to the shops and a short walk to the Polynesian Spa pool. The only downfall was the noise you get from R#2406...you can hear the trolleys thumping through the walk ramp and then there's the staircase which is right next to our bedroom wall, kids were running up and down which is good exercise for them but quite noisy when you can hear every step/thump. Thankfully we were mostly out during our stay, so it didn't really bother us that much. Otherwise, I would definitely stay again but just not in that room. Would definitely look at a Club Room package next time.

Room Tip: Don't choose R2406 if you want quiet

Dear Koko
Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.
I can recommend the Club Rooms for your next visit as the 5th floor is a child-free floor. As much as we enjoy having families staying with us we know many of our guests appreciate a quiet floor, especially parents having a weekend away from the kids!

We look forward to welcoming you back one day soon.

The website states "All 227 elegant rooms and suites are air-conditioned". We recently booked in for a 5 night stay.At +- 4:30pm on the first day we reported to the reception that we could not get the AC to work. The temp dial has no effect. +-1.5 hours later we got a call that the maintenance man is on his way. The room was to hot and made us very claustrophobic. Well - +-9pm we call again as the maintenance man has not arrived . She sent someone immediatelely.

To cut a long story short. They do not have AC. At this time of the year the AC in all rooms are set to hot and you can only control the fan speed . The guy switched it to cold for us after removing the cover. Now we had a room that was like a fridge. We ended up moving rooms to as room with a sliding door so that we could adjust our room temp by how much we open the sliding door. IN MY OPINION - DEFINATELY NO AC. IT IS A FAN THAT YOU CAN HAVE EITHER SET TO HOT OR COLD BY THE MAINTENANCE MAN. I WOULD GO AS FAR AS SAYING IT IS FALSE ADVERTISING. I would not have booked 5 days knowing the situation with the "AC".

Dear guest
I have investigated the air conditioning issue in your room. Rest assured the hotel offers air conditioning to all 227 rooms. This is not misadvertised. As it turned out the problem was an easy one to fix - a new thermastat has been installed to that room - but this was not communicated clearly to you.

I offer you my sincere apologies for the poor way the air conditioning fault was handled.

To clarify further, the rooms are not set to hot as you were incorrectly advised, simply that most of our guests put the air conditioning to warm during the winter months.

I will follow up with Front Office and maintenance to ensure all staff have the correct information to share with guests.
Once again my apologies for the confusion caused.

Hotel was very centrally located to all the main attractions either walking or 10 minute drive.
Public spaces were large and well-appointed. The bar area was a nice place to wind down from a days worth of sight-seeing (quiet with adequate seating areas).

Room was nice size with comfortable bed; could have used a bit more drawers/storage though.

This is a large hotel in an excellent location. The public rooms and reception on the ground floor are spacious. Our room was comfortable and well furnished and the bathroom was clean and well equipped. As we were getting towards the end of a 4 week trip with a big group, it was good to find that this hotel has a good guest laundry. All the staff were helpful and friendly. We didn't dine, but had a good value snack at the bar. The breakfast buffet was good, with a wide range of hot or cold options.

The facilities and the room were good. An excellent comfortable bed and reasonably quiet.
A major fault and one so basic in the hospitality industry is making sure that the front desk experience is warm, welcoming and helpful.Alas, this is not the case. We arrived early but tried to check in on the off chance that the room might be ready. Not so,check in was not till 2 pm and until the dot of 2pm we were kept waiting, No offer of free coffee ,a sorry, another room. Just a snarky ,cold prison guard attitude pretending to be a hotel receptionist
Restaurant and bar staff were fine and very friendly but a word to the wise ..the Trade Descriptions Act probably applies to food and it would have been nice for the seafood chowder to actually contain some seafood rather than be a vegetable chowder . The steak on the other hand was excellent

Dear Wayne
Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased you enjoyed the facilities and our new comfortable beds.
Your comments regarding a warm welcome on arrival are exactly what we strive to provide, however we have sadly failed on this occasion. I will be discussing your feedback with the Reception staff and Front Office Manager. Please accept my sincere apologies for the attitude of one staff member which can give a poor impression of the entire hotel.
I've also passed on your comments regarding the Chowder to our Executive Chef. Again, my apologies although I'm pleased the steak was excellent.
I do hope you will choose to return to stay with us next time you're in Rotorua. I can guarantee you a warm welcome!
