I've stayed here on more the one occasion for work.
Quiet, standard type hotel. Looks ok, clean enough.
However, awfully high charges for internet and terrible TV reception - their system for controlling the content means the resolution is awful, virtually unwatchable.
I have stayed here only because it's been paid for by my emplyorer- I'd recommend the Millenium
instead of this.

We have just come back from a weekend away with our family for our Wedding Anniversary, and have been very impressed with most of the service of the staff at the Novotel. I agree with previous comments that the rooms are not large, and the bathroom is quite small, but all of this was adequate for our stay. We booked 4 rooms, and ate the buffet at the Restaurant on Saturday night. It was not an amazing meal, but once again adequate. I have seafood allergies and there were not a lot of options for a non-seafood eater. The service of the wine staff was very slow and we had to ask for this. You might be wondering why I said that the staff went "over and beyond"? They really made our group experience affordable and memorable. We were a family ranging from the ages of 1-88 years old, and it can be hard to make everyone happy in is range. It was nice to see a company where people are more Important than the dollars! We were given vouchers for a the Bar which when we went to use them, the bar was closed and we were leaving to go home. We were allowed a very late checkout of 2 pm, which enabled us to stay together longer. The F&B manager allowed us to have food and drinks in the Bar, turned on the lights for us and we were served there. Nothing was a problem for him, a very accommodating man who tried his hardest to have happy customers (which he did). We all left the Hotel happy, with lovely memories that make you want to return.

Rooms were small, but "efficient". Bathroom was modern, but had little space for shaving kit and makeup on the modernistic sink. Had a little difficulty getting the safe to work and had to get some help from the staff. The real drawback, however, was $22.00 per day for internet and only limited time access in the lobby! When are hotels going to get over this?

Our lasting impression of the Novotel was one of disappointment. From the outside it looks the part with a terrific location next to the lake. Very close to the town centre and it was ideal for the Blues Festival in town.
We found the 'Superior Room' not very superior with an adjoining room door and related noise.
The restaurant buffet in the evening left a lot to be desired, and the breakfast was like a scrum with a melee around the toaster and cereals. We stayed two nights and ate in for one meal in the evening and the morning. The second day we ate breakfast in a local restaurant and had a cooked breakfast each for the same cost of a continental breakfast in the hotel, plus had peace and quiet.
Limited storage in rooms. Lack of coat hangers. Stains on the carpet. Very noisy at times with people not respecting other's privacy when outside rooms.
Wouldn't take much to improve - but needs attention to detail.

Bar lovely & Restaurant meals from the menu were first class. Room (518) was a little disappointing for the Novotel.. this room needs a refurbish ~ the sink was chipped and the chrome bathroom fittings were pitted. We didn't ask to change rooms as we were only there one night but I'm sure they would have accommodated us if we had asked. Service was good. Great location and the Spa (indoor) was lovely with several hot tubs of diff degrees and open until 11pm. Ask for bath robes when you check in so you can go to and from your room to the Spa at ease! Room service of our coffees/lattes' in the morning arrived in paper take away cups and no idea why but this alone may stop me going there again.

Second time stayed in the Novotel Rotorua last night and the room was a joint room with the next door, through the locked door in beween the two rooms, i could hear every single word the next door customer were speaking even though they were trying very hard to be considerate to us by talking quietly, The sound of them openning their suit case, receiving text, even dringking water...
