Third year in a row that we have stayed at this lovely hotel on the lakeside.
It is conveniently located and with the new food court/mall across the road its even better.

Staff were amazing as always
QE Health spa across the parkland

Lovely pools and well equipped gym.

Excelled price.
Room service was fast and yummy at 2am.

Well done again!

Room Tip: Lakeview rooms are the best

Excellent hotel - well maintained with plush decor. Customer services is fantastic - nothing is too much trouble for staff. Has it own swimming pool and hot pools. Do not havee to pay inflated prices to get to hot pools Great places to dine out at the hotels doorstep. Buffet meals at the hotel is good value for money.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view room - views across the lake are excellent

This review of a stay in the last week of July 2014 is a little late but I felt it was necessary to do as the hotel has improved so dramatically in the last few months since we stayed earlier in the year. We have been regular guests at this hotel bi-annually over the last 6 years. At our last 3day visit previous to this one, the discontent of the staff attitude was palpable. From the Reception, restaurant staff to the housekeeping. Smiles greetings and courteous natures were non existent with exception of the Doorman. We were very pleased to see the doorman was there again with a friendly smile and offer of assistance at this stay.
It was not only the change in staff that we noticed this time but the décor in the public areas had been dramatically been rejuvenated providing inviting warm and luxurious spaces to linger. The staff morale had altered so much that it made this particular stay truly enjoyable. We are aware that “service” in regional accommodation is not what a seasoned global business traveller would be expecting but this is a hotel that caters to the business and upper range large international tour groups.
Our previous stay had renovations with the bar closed. This time both the bar and lobby had been completed. In my wife’s words, the décor in the lobby and the bar was like a velvety trap, enticing you like to sit in every chair until you found the right one. The bar was the same with a rustic sexiness to it. We settled on the stools that surrounded the raised fire pit for the first hour chatting then moved to the wonderful chairs to face the TV for the weekend game. The bar staff really made the interlude welcoming. We would have walked into town as we had always done if it had not been for their polite banter, professional and personal service.
This stay was in a standard room facing Rangiuru Street, was a little tired and in need of upgrade but as always the bed was the reason that we stay here. Large, very very comfortable and with an underlay that feels like a “floaty-cloud bed.”
The dinner menu is diverse enough to satisfy all style of dinning. Reasonably priced with a good wine selection. We certainly found no fault with the quality of the food. The breakfast is plentiful and caters to all tastes from gluten free, extensive Asian and the standard artery clogging English fare.
Pool area and facilities are one of the best in town. An indoor heated pool with two hot-tubs to soak in as well as two sauna’s. There are private pools that can be booked for a charge. The public shower and toilet facilities accompanying the pool/spa do require an upgrade as they are very tired. There is also a day spa/beauty therapy suite.
Location wise the hotel is perfectly placed to walk across the street to the lake promenade or 100 meters the other way into the new restaurant precinct, that leads into the retail centre of the town. The hotel is perfectly positioned for either business or pleasure
Whatever has happened at the Rotoura Novotel in the last few months I encourage it to continue as the service quality has so dramatically improved that we now look forward to the holistic experience when we return not just the “floaty cloud beds” Which goes to prove the point that no matter how well presented or decorated a hotel is, without friendly and welcoming staff the experience can be destroyed.

Room Tip: Request a room on the Lake side

The location is ideal for Rotorua it's on the lake promenade. With the high street within walking distance...and lots of restaurants and bars located close by it's ideal to pull up here for your stay. In fact This hotel has a beautiful bar too with space outside for smokers to sit and swap stories. The lobby area is big with comfortable seating all around. I saw a lot of tour groups checking in and I was surprised to note the hotel had a high level of occupancy in the low season too.
The breakfast room is big and so is the breakfast. The rooms are large with good views. I saw ample parking too. The only strange thing I experienced is that whenever I phoned the reception I was greeted by the Ibis hotel operator which is next door. The reception staff are very helpful and friendly. But the wifi was not free. They have thermal baths too for the enjoyment of the guests. It's free. However there are private thermal bath cubicles and those are chargeable. All in all the stay was most comfortable.

Room Tip: a lake facing room is ideal on the 4th or 5th floor.
