This tour wasn't very engaging, perhaps due to our tour guide who I think struggled to engage our tour group. The singular highlight was seeing a kiwi bird as the set up with the red lights is a good idea in letting tourists see the birds without disturbing their nocturnal nature. However, overall it wasn't very interesting

We take all feedback as an opportunity to improve and will pass your comments onto our new customer team manager who will also be in charge of guide training.
Great news that you saw a kiwi though - they really are very unusual little birds.

Rainbow Springs is a MUST SEE on any trip to Rotorua. One of the best landscaped wildlife parks we have every encountered with a good range of great exhibits. But by far it's stand out is the Kiwi exhibit which provided not only a great education centre but nocturnal enclosures for viewing in both the day and night. We visited during the day and our ticket allowed a return visit that night to view the Kiwis foraging in a different enclosure. We were incredibly lucky to watch a Kiwi hatch as the wildlife park conducts an effective breeding program releasing up to 150 of the endangered kiwis back into the wild each year. Whilst it would be rare to experience what we were lucky enough to see it is well worth a few extra dollars to take the behind the scene kiwi experience. We even sponsored a kiwi chick to help the centre continue the great work that they are doing...don't miss it!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments.
How fantastic that you got to see one of our precious kiwi hatch! Even better, that you sponsored a kiwi! The work we do at Kiwi Encounter relies on kind sponsors such as yourself and the price for the behind the scenes tours is a 100% donation to the trust that runs the facility.
Pat yourself on the back for helping out our kiwi and we hope to see you back here one day to check us out again.
Thanks again!

My family (with two children aged 3 and 1) had a good day out here. The pathed forested area was great to stroll through and look at all the birds and plant life. Our children were very fascinated with the fish as well, which you could feed for a small fee. My partner and I also took our 3 year old on the water boat ride through the "dinosaur" area and a big plunge at the end and we all enjoyed it. The small playground area was also fantastic for both the children to play in and to have lunch at. Unfortunately we couldn't go back at night to see the kiwi's "come alive" as both our children were in bed before nightfall. That was the only downside.

Great to hear that you had a good day out with your family. The playground is always a hit with the littlies!
Shame you didnt get to come back at night to see our open air kiwi enclosure, but we hope you did see them during your visit in our day time display.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

we recently bought a locals annual pass to this attraction after going there with family from out of Rotorua.
Our group had a wonderful time there. 6 adults and 4 children from 4 to 10 years.
The "Big Splash" water ride was done more than once and getting a bit wet was not an issue.
The Free Flight Bird show is a must also as it's very informative and the staff and bird interaction
is amazing.
The Tuatara, the trout and other birds, wow.
Didn't do the kiwi house but for those who haven't seen a live kiwi bird, it is a must see.
Great value, great setting.

The park itself is nice, the good thing is you pay to help conserve the kiwis and take care of them, the ticket includes a night kiwi "seeing" witch is very good and you actually get to see them, that alone makes it worth it. You have some other animals to see in the park and you can hop on the local "splash mountain" as many times you like.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your recent comments.
We are pleased you managed to use the night entry on your ticket to see kiwi, it really is very special to see them under the stars without any glass!
Safe Travels!
