In the meantime Rotorua Museum is running a limited programme of exhibitions, events and education programmes in other venues around Rotorua. We also run free twice-daily tours (11am & 2pm) in Government Gardens - including the history of the buildings, battles and historical sites around the gardens, the sculpture trail, and the ongoing programme that has seen the release of several endangered New Zealand falcons into the gardens. Please visit www.rotoruamuseum.co.nz for latest information including status updates, tour details and our current programme of events, exhibitions and education.

We were not expecting much from this day tour on our cruise but were quite amazed by the Bath House. The visit was very interesting starting with the culture of the region, continuing with the treatment rooms, going down to the basement furnaces and finishing with the amazing earthquake experience in the small movie theater. Not to be missed

I've visited Rotorua many times in the past but visited the museum for the first time on my most recent visit. It's a must-do if you to understand more of the town's history and had enough to keep two teens engaged for a couple of hours. The highlight was the viewing platform from the roof offering splendid views over Rotorua and the lake. The interactive Tarawera eruption cinema experience was also very informative despite feeling a little dated.

It's located in town - very easy to find. The building itself is majestic, you can't miss it. There is an entrance fee with complimentary drink - a plus point. Be sure to go for the Rotorua Story mini cinema screening - a must-do!

We spent at least 3 hours there and we managed to visit almost all sections of the museums except one, as we were too scared :D One don't you must know is that there are some parts of the museum at which photography isn't allowed.

Whether you're a culture or history enthusiast, a photography lover - this is the perfect place to start your visit to Rotorua. I'm giving it a 5/5 because nothing about it is not to be loved!

Not the largest museum but cram packed with interesting exhibits, photographs. A beautiful building set in a lovely park. We visited during the Easter holidays and there was a children's day in progress. I think it would have been even better on a quiet day. Maori soldiers stories and photograph were a moving tribute.
