“my favourite activity in north island, new zealand”
Reviewed 15 January 2008

Very fun. I think its fine for all to try out the expert route after the scenic one.

I will consider the scenic route most interesting route amongst the 3 routes. As it is longer and has more scenary in it. The expert route difficulty is definitely much harder, there were more sharp bends but not impossible to tackle. Do check your brakes carefully before taking the expert route.

The gondola ride up the hill is rather scenic as well.

“What a blast!!!”
Reviewed 1 August 2007

Did the luge in Rotorua and it is good family fun at a really good price. For $125NZ all five of us were able to have five runs down the luge. It is so fun and there are three courses to take so you can have a different experience each time. The views are beautiful over the lake and city and the gondola price is included. It is also very safe since the carts are so easy to control. Everyone, especially the kids, loved doing this.

“If you have the option, do the Rotorua luge over Queenstown”
Reviewed 4 January 2007

Have done both Rotorua and Queenstown luges and the Rotorua offers three different tracks vs Q'towns two, and the ride is longer on all of them. Of course, the view is not as jaw-droppingly amazing, but you could always just go up in the Gondola for the view and skip the luge..
Either way they are both loads of fun for all ages (My 3 yo LOVES luging!) - but if you need to save pennies, skip Q'town and go for Rotorua.

“loved the skyswing!”
Reviewed 12 December 2006

Try to book the $40 package per person (includes roundtrip gondola rides, 2luge rides, 1 skyswing ride) at the I-site in Rotorua before going here. You'll save money rather than purchasing tickets for each ride.

You'll need to ride the gondola all the way to the top. There's a staff member there who can take your souvenir picture and you can buy it later at the entrance/exit if you wish for $30 (includes a pen, 2 big photos and 4 smaller photos.

The newest attraction (I think) is the skyswing ($30) which is loads of fun! Lovely view of Rotorua from up above. :D There's a videocam attached to the ride so you can opt to get a copy of your ride, costs $30 for the dvd.

The luge is also fun, only problem is, if you'll ride for the first time, the staff recommends that you take the "scenic route" which is longer but beware, the track is quite bumpy so you might lose your grip and can be quite uncomfortable. I liked the intermediate track more. There are also scenic walks along the track so you can go down and explore. Smaller children can join adults in the ride. Helmets are provided for free at the bin before the entrance.

There's also a restaurant here. Prices of drinks are more expensive than what you'd pay outside, eg. $3 for a bottle of Sprite.

There's also a souvenir shop, although I'd prefer the souvenir coins =)

“Fun!!”
Reviewed 2 May 2004

This is a great time!! The Sky Swing is soooo much fun, actually scary and fun. The luge is great, it's a blast and you get nice views of the town as you ride the lift back up the hill. We didn't eat at the restaurant.
