This was a great experience to witness the Maori people and their village. The smell is something that you will have to get used to, as it is an active geothermal location. The guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the history and you were able to experience their traditional performances (unfortunately it was raining, so the performance I witnessed was indoors). If you are lucky you will get to witness someone sanding the carvings that later get sold in gift shops. It was great to see where the indigenous/native New Zealand culture comes from.

We arrived just in time for the tour. I was just so good, learned about the indigenous culture, very informative and was shown a cultural show. It was fun and we had a chance to taste corn cooked in the geothermal pools. Highly recommended visit.

We really enjoyed our visit here despite the fact it was a rainy old day in Rotorua. I had been to the city a few times before and had seen the bubbly mud et before but I wanted to show my son in what little time we had about the culture of the Maori and how they live aligned with nature. Yes, it is a little touristy in the shows but it is fun, educational and interactive. The tour was also really interesting as it provided a lot of insight into the life and the physical environment. It wasn’t pushy or artificial. I was really pleased we took the time out to visit and I would definitely recommend anybody who had limited time to see this. Allow 2-3 hours.

Tena Koe,
Thank you for your comment, we are so glad you had an interesting experience, despite the weather!

it's a real privilege to be able to share our beautiful environment and history with manuhiri like yourself. You are absolutely right - it's not a show, it's a real living Maori village. Many of our staff live here (it's a quick stroll to work - how perfect is that?!).

Thanks for choosing to visit us and all the best for your trip around NZ.

Nga mihi,
Lou

Terrible! Rude obnoxious people who run this place. Bad attitude from people who charge far too much for a much less than average experience. I've Visited this place twice now, and thought that the first bad visit was as just a one off, however the second visit was as low grade as the first!..
Take my advice and visit the far superior Te Puia!!
