Thank you for your review! Our reviews are important to us because they show us what we are doing well, and in some cases in which areas we can improve!!
Thanks to your feedback our night security are now doing more rounds throughout the night in order to make sure noise levels are kept to a minimum.
Hope you are enjoying the rest of your travels!
We stayed here for 3 nights in February. Our 6 room mixed dorm was cleaned daily, showers and toilets were also clean! The staff were also very helpful in recommending activities to do and places to see. Its also very close to the city centre.
Would stay here again!!
Having stayed at other Base hostels we found this place a disappointment.
Good points - OK location 5 mins from centre
Bad points - staff unhelpful
Room was unclean...the whole place looks like it needs a really good clean. There were big cobwebs across our window & curtains which made us question how clean everything else was. The sheets were not clean and blankets very stained. There was a charge for toiletries and a towel unlike a lot of the other Base hostels we have stayed in. Breakfast $6 which was only toast and cereal. Make your own ! The hostel is very noisy at night due to the Lava bar next door . I think this hostel mainly caters for Kiwi bus clients which is a shame. Wouldn't recommend this place or stay again .
We stayed in January 2014 for 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday) in our camper van which we found to be the cheapest place in town through the i site. $9 per person per night is great value especially for the location and facilities (full use of kitchen, bathrooms, showers, tv room, swimming pool). Good value Internet as well, $4 per day for unlimited access or $12 for the week. All was good until around 10pm when the unbelievably loud music started at their on site bar - this music carried on until 3am Saturday night and around 2am Sunday night. After the music was turned off all you could hear were loud people leaving and then all the glass bottles being emptied into the outside bins. In the reception there are events posted all through the week so I can't imagine this just being on a weekend.
It is a shame because other than that we would have really enjoyed our stay but they need to find a happy medium between pleasing their guests and having a profitable bar.
We had a private room with a double bed and shared the bathroom with several other rooms. Never did I have to wait to use the bathroom nor the shower. Staff cleaned them very well but as usual some travelers don't care what kind of mess they leave behind them so as usual be the first in. The kitchen was large with enough stove and fridge space for everyone to use. They will organise tours for you at no extra cost. The hostel is right across the street from a park which has several hot bubbling mud pools and a couple of hot water lakes, it even has a hot foot soaking bath to relax your feet in. All for free. Short walk to the bus stop and information center. Grocery is nearby.
I usually don't stay in Base hostels, but since we were only here for one night off the Kiwi bus we just checked in with everyone else. It was really a pretty nice hostel! The rooms were clean and had balconies and en suite bathrooms, and the pool outside looked great (and was warm, I heard) although I had no time to swim. Seemed to be in a good location as well and the bar looked busy next door. I happened to see one of the private rooms also as we met some guys staying in one, and theirs was quite large and opened right out to the pool.
Only downside was no lift, but otherwise I was happy staying here.
