Having been to Yellowstone and Iceland anything in Rotorua would not compare. However, this is an interesting thermal park with good walking trails around it. The visitor centre is modern, staff friendly and there is a good cafe. If you go out of the park turn right (road was closed while we were there) you will reach a bridge and there is a lovely hot spot to sit in the river and enjoy for free.

Having spent time at the Orakei thermal park 2 days prior, however having noted that this was the #2 ranked attraction in Rotorua, we figured we would give it a go.

The highlight for us was the Lady Knox Geyser which as I am sure others have explained, is a phenomenon that for the viewers benefit is effectively controlled by the park ranger. Irrespective of the whys and wherefores, the result was well worth it.

The park on the other hand was, IMHO nowhere near as good as the Wai-o-tapu. Sure, a large highly publicised pond with orange edges and a sickly green water filled crater were nice, but overall, my award - so to speak - goes to Wai-o-tapu.

I had been here many many years ago, and this time visited with some overseas family. The landscape is amazing with spectacular views, the paths very well maintained. We ended up tagging onto a tour group and received a guided tour. Well worth the visit.

Amazing place to visit. Not best suited to younger children who might find the sulphur overpowering and a lot of walking
