Owner description: The largest of a dozen lakes formed by volcanic activity, this clear, calm lake offers cruises, kayaking and sailing, as well as great trout fishing.

We had a stunning time at Roturua sightseeing-points. Most of to mention are the perfectly restored Bath-House with its excellent Museum. Its worth every penny - there are free tours every(?) day. We loved it! Our guide turned out to be a very elegant lady of higher age with excellent knowledge. It was both very interesting an fun to hear her talk about NZ-life in former days. Very respectful words on Maori-culture.

We took the chance of a bicycle-trip along the lake (make shire to stay on firm grounds!), a tour full of beautiful sights! Highly recommended!

This beautifully peaceful lake has a violent history. Geothermal activity continues below and around Lake Rotorua. Clouds of steam drift around the shore and the water has a high sulphur content, resulting in a magical green-blue colouration.

This lake is really interesting to walk (and drive) around the whole thing. Some sections are quite beautiful, blue, etc and others smell like sulphur and have steam coming out of them. The contrast between different areas of the same lake was really interesting.
