I have just returned from the two week trip to NZ, one of which was in the luxury accommodation which you had blessed me with for entering your competition a while back.

I went with my sister who lives in Australia, and has done so for the past 28 years, without ever visiting NZ until now. Thanks to you, I was able to give her the most wonderful introduction to NZ. She cared for my late wife during her terminal illness, at some considerable sacrifice to herself, and this was a fantastic way for me to say thanks to her for that.

We found all the places we stayed at quite special, as you would expect, but what was not anticipated was that we were regarded almost as family, rather than customers. I am glad I chose to stay two nights each at Waipoua, Treetops and Chalet Eiger, because it gave us a chance to get to know the teams just that little bit better. We loved the homeliness shown by Nicole at Waipoua, and Emil and his Hea Min were such an interesting pair at Chalet Eiger. We had a great day wandering over the estate at Treetops, which included getting lost in the forest and doing battle with their supplejack vines. It all added to the grand adventure.

The food at every stop was amazing, and where we were able to share with the other guests we found that the company was interesting and congenial, so that we came away with a feeling of having enjoyed stimulating companionship. Our last evening at Claremont was an occasion to treasure.

I really would like to give you my most sincere thanks for a very precious trip with all its memories.

Yours sincerely

Martin Christie

If you are looking for the perfect blend of nature and luxury Treetops is a must destination for you. We ended our three week honeymoon of Australia and New Zealand at Treetops... and our only regret was not staying there longer (5 days).

First a little bit about our time in Oz and NZed. We flew over on Quantas (don't fly Air New Zealand if you are going coach much more leg room and better staff) into Sydney. We then drove into the blue mountains and stayed at Lillianfels a lovely resort with breathtaking fews. I'd describe it has a high-end b&b. We then stayed at the Hyatt in Sydney with great views of the opera house and our cruise ship when it came in. (4 stars experience)

We took a Princess cruise from Oz to NZ and it was ok. We had a mini-suite mid ship (wife get sea sick in high waves) and while the staff was great, the "newly weds to nearly deads"... with emphasis on the nearly deads were the majority of the passengers. We did an overland tour of the south island of New Zealand but found out later for the price we could have rented a helicopter and done the sights for about the same amount of money! (3 star experience)

We got off the ship in Auckland and drove south to Treetops. The directions were great and i'd honestly highly recommend reading Johnny Jet's travel blog about his experience at Treetops as we basically did everything in his review. So i will focus on what is not in the review.

The staff are amazing. From before our arrival Heiko emailed us and asked us if we had any special needs, how we were getting to the resort and gave us car service to helicopter options. Upon arrival he greeted us, gave us a tour and spent time with us to figure out what we enjoyed. After this he helped plan a range of suggested activities. He also introduced us to his associate, Nick, because he was going to be off the next day or so.

Nick was equally as professional and helpful as Heiko. From arranging our tours to finding me a stargazing atlas and then helping me find the southern cross and other Constellations that I could not locate even with the help of the book!

The food was amazing and complemented with a great wine list. Both Breakfast and dinner, Nick, Heiko and Bruce (the chef) listened to our requests and then made wonderful meals! They even made what my wife makes for me every weekend (stuffed french toast) that was not on the menu! The format of the lodge lends itself to this type of interaction as the kitchen is more something you'd find in a luxury house, then ever in a hotel or lodge.

The villas were great. Even though they are semi-attached as another reviewer pointed out, you would never really know it. The backyard that you have is extremely private and the tub, shower, living area, fireplace, etc are amazing. We really enjoyed retiring to our room and starting a fire every night (wood replaced by the staff every morning).

If you do not get a chance to read the Johnny Jet review, be sure to do the Helicopter tour, the photo safari, the Maori food trail walk and the horseback ride with Ditty! All of them were amazing.

We also had the privilege to meet, dine with and hike with the owner John Saxs and his family. As a lobbyist for a high tech company and my wife a cable news executive we meet many people in our careers that are wealthy, powerful and some of which are trying to make the world a better place. None of the people I have met thus far in my life equal John Sax. A true light in this world, meeting him and spending time with him and his family was a life changing event for us. Google his name or read johnny jet for more about him, but he really helped us refocus our yuppie lifestyle into something that will in the long run bring more meaning. He reminded us that life is not about the size of your wallet but the size of your contributions you make to others and gave us a way to think about how to accomplish that in our daily lives.

We can't wait to return probably for our two year anniversary and we look forward to sharing this special place with our loved ones. It really is a special place and if you are thinking about traveling to New Zealand or Australia do NOT miss Treetops.

Treetops is a Lodge where nature and luxury meets with each other. The most enjoyable time of our trip and we will be back next year. The staff was very well trained and the food was one of the best we have had during our trip from north to south. The list of activities to do is to long as we could have stayed one more week. Our highlight was the guide walk with the manager and pig. Yes, they do have a pet pig named "Othello"

Be aware you need to stay min. 4 nights!

We stayed at Treetops for just two nights and we wished it was for two weeks!!!! The staff is very helpful and so kind! Bruce, the chef extraordinaire let us eat our dinner in the kitchen while he cooked! The villas are wonderful and very private. Waking up to the sounds of the forest is wonderful. You will not regret staying at Treetops!
