We were staying in Lake road at the Mercure motel and decided to take a walk down to the lake. By chance we came upon the Maori church ,cemetary and lots of Maori carvings on buildings which were fascinating. The monument to the fallen in many different wars was situated by the lake and the setting was peaceful and quite different Behind an ancient Maori boat steam was escaping from the soil as it does all around Rotorua
I took some photos which I hope are on this site

Reckon you will be missing out on something special if you don't visit the Ohinemutu. They say you have seen one volcanic landscape and you have seen it all, its not true. I find Ohinemutu different to the other volcanic attractions, its definitely worth a visit

I visited the Ohinemutu village early on a sunday afternoon, It was peaceful and tranquil and for an instant time seemed to have stood still. The views of the water was fantastic from here as well and for some reason I did get a strange sense of De Ja Vu. I would happily return here again

Every trip to Rotorua must include a visit to the St Faiths Church it is so so special. You must sit in the pews to the right to get the full effect of the feature window it gets me each time I visit just fantastic. The whole church is a New Zealand icon and I am not religious but a proud New Zealander,do visit you will not be disappointed.
