“Delightful outdoor lunch at a reasonable cost”
Review of Bathhouse Cafe - CLOSED

New to our tour, we'd been told about unreasonable meal costs. Bathhouse Café, outside the Rotorua Museum overlooking Government Gardens, was our first test, and we 2 had a fine lunch for NZ$ 24.50, or just under US$21. New Zealand's lunch counters seem to have 3 layers of lunch - a kitchen-cooked dish that's pricey (NZ$15+ or so), large heated quiches or sandwiches that you can easily split (NZ$12 or so) and smaller cold sandwiches and such (NZ$5.50+). We found splitting a hot sandwich or quiche and a beer or soft drink apiece was plenty to eat, and not expensive at all. We placed our order, got a "number" to display on our table, went outside, and momentarily the staff brought out our heated lunch with a courteous "everything all right?" A very pleasant experience and a major relief as to our ongoing meal costs!

We had breakfast here, we ordered the porridge and the eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked well although the hollandaise tasted like packet sauce which is a shame. The portion was a bit small to others I have had. The porridge was good and a big portion. Coffee was good and service was friendly. Would probably go back if in Rotorua again.

Not a destination cafe but fine if you are at the museum. Good coffee and we enjoyed the snacks and cakes. Not over priced.

Missed the kitchen by 1 minute and enjoyed the fridge selection and out of stock wine selection.
Would pay $15 pear hed on the Gold Coast for pannini & wine not NZ$25 per head.

After touring the Museum I enjoyed a coffee while reflecting on the history of Rotorua.

The artwork on the coffee almost rivalled the museum's modern art.

Try the coffee and a snack - the coffee was great!
