I came here for tea and scones. The bathhouse has an interesting history which you can read about on the menus. All the staff were helpful and well mannered, service was prompt. Coffee was well made.
The scones were delicious and of great value. The juices though, are not fresh, they're bottled.

The queue was very long and the service slow. It seemed to me that requiring the person on the till taking the order to have to keep going off to get the food out of the cabinets and put them in to be heated or cross the room to put the order up was extremely inefficient. And despite being given numbers, there were a lot of staff wandering around asking - "who is this coffee for?", or "is this your scone?" The quality of the food was not an issue, the outdoor seating area location very pleasant.

New to our tour, we'd been told about unreasonable meal costs. Bathhouse Café, outside the Rotorua Museum overlooking Government Gardens, was our first test, and we 2 had a fine lunch for NZ$ 24.50, or just under US$21. New Zealand's lunch counters seem to have 3 layers of lunch - a kitchen-cooked dish that's pricey (NZ$15+ or so), large heated quiches or sandwiches that you can easily split (NZ$12 or so) and smaller cold sandwiches and such (NZ$5.50+). We found splitting a hot sandwich or quiche and a beer or soft drink apiece was plenty to eat, and not expensive at all. We placed our order, got a "number" to display on our table, went outside, and momentarily the staff brought out our heated lunch with a courteous "everything all right?" A very pleasant experience and a major relief as to our ongoing meal costs!

We had breakfast here, we ordered the porridge and the eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked well although the hollandaise tasted like packet sauce which is a shame. The portion was a bit small to others I have had. The porridge was good and a big portion. Coffee was good and service was friendly. Would probably go back if in Rotorua again.
