After driving for more than 3 hrs on a rainy day from Auckland airport our new navman GPS finally navigated us to arrive safely at the resort just before the reception closing time at 5.30pm.
As the resort is on the northern end of Lake Rotorua about 15mins from the town centre, a brief chat with the resort staff the week before our arrival was helpful - to replenish some food supply from the supermarket at Matamata, renowned for the Hobbiton where the Lord of the Rings was filmed.
As the next supermarket is over an hour away, we were glad to stock up for a couple of days and utilise the resort full kitchen facilities to enjoy our home-cooked meals. Despite the wet weather, we could still relax at the cosy 2bedroom townhouse and enjoy the serene view of the canal from the lounge room.
The Rotorua museum and thermal bathhouse in the town centre and other attractions are about half an hour’s drive from the resort.
The new Rotorua international airport is only 10mins from the resort and we managed to book a direct flight back to Sydney (only 2 flights per week) instead of driving another 3hrs to Auckland airport (even though the rental company charged a one way fee of $115 for returning at a different location, it’s a more enjoyable holiday to depart from a nearby airport & paying the international flight departure tax of NZ$15 per person).
