“Value and Convenience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2007

We stayed here for one night only but could have stayed longer. It is a typical Ibis Hotel. What set it apart was the very friendly and welcoming staff. It is also very conveniently located in Rotorua. The beautiful lake and Maori village Ohinemutu
are just minutes away. There are also heaps of restaurants and cafes nearby. The venue was extremely quiet, clean and comfortable.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2007

We stayed 1 night at the Ibis Hotel Rotorua in April 2007. For a walk-in room rate of $116 per night we got a typical Ibis hotel room on the 4/F with a lake view. Free carparking under the hotel was included.

The Ibis Front Desk staff were very friendly and genuinely helpful in the nicest of ways and it was obvious that they seemed to enjoy going the extra distance to provide some valuable customer service without expectation of anything in return. They did not try to give us the desparate "hard sell on tours or anything else" like we had received from many motel and B&B operators that we enquired with prior to deciding to stay at the Ibis and which we found rather off-putting.

The room was small but average for a 3 star property and was adequately furnished with a good king bed. The room had not long been vacated by previous guests and we found on entering it that the bathroom had a few things missed in the cleaning process but after a call to the Front Desk, someone from housekeeping arrived within a few minutes and quickly rectified the problems.

The Ibis is well located in a quiet area of the city and is close to the lake, the lakeside parks and gardens, and within easy walking distance to city shops, restaurants, and entertainment. It and the adjoining Novotel are perhaps the best located hotels in Rotorua away from Fenton St where a lot of the other hotels and motels are located and which carries a very heavy traffic volume and has associated traffic noise.

We did not experience any odour problems whilst there.

We also didn't try the hotel's buffet breakfast due to our having eaten very well at a Maori hungai the previous evening, instead settling for a cup of coffee and a banana in our room before checking out.

In summary, a hotel with friendly helpful staff and offering good value for money in one of the better locations in Rotorua.

I stayed at the Ibis Rotorua in November 2005 and it was a good base for travelling around this small town. The hotel is easy to find and it has good parking at the rear of the hotel. The rooms are very well equiped and are kept clean the breakfast in the hotel is also very reasonable and has plenty of choice for everyone.

Not a bad hotel but almost certainly not the best value to be found in Rotorua.

Expect a small room, with shower only (i.e. no bath). If you're lucky you may get a lake view. If you're unlucky (like me) you'll have a view of the Novotel carpark instead.

The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. I certainly slept well, and while the room was near the lifts, noise was not the problem I might have expected although the "ping" of the lift arriving was more than audible.

Limited choice of TV channels and budget furnishings.

All in all an acceptable standard of accommodation for the price. No more, no less.

We stayed at the Ibis for the one night in September and agree pretty much with the other review. Typical Ibis Hotel really - modern, clean, rooms well appointed (although a bit on the small side). Priced very reasonably.

Location was good - centrally located for the town and lake, and not too far from a thermal area (although you couldn't smell it luckily!)

This 4 story hotel opened in Dec 2004, and is within walking distance to Lake Rotorua (maybe 2 blocks tops). It was in the perfect location so that my wife and I could walk to the lake, and walk into the town centre for dining, snacks and shopping. Everything in the town centre was within half a mile walking distance. There is a guest laundry with 2 washers and 4 dryers ($2NZ per machine) that are available 24/7 -- we never had to wait to use the machines). We stayed there 5 nights, and were extremely happy with the hotel. The prices were reasonable (starting at $109 NZD/night) If Rotorua is your jumping off point for excursions in the area, the Ibis is the perfect location!!!
