Thank you Jenna and Charlie you made our stay wonderful!

We were met at our car (without too much teasing of my bad parking!) and instantly made to feel like we had come to see long lost friends! So welcoming and kind!

We enjoyed Rotorua so much mainly due to staying here and the exquisite food made by Charlie, including dessert with fairy floss! Everyone needs to try this!

We had a two night stay in this outstanding lodge. The Hamurana Lodge is a short drive from central Rotorua and located on a beautiful property. We were warmly greeted on arrival and given a tour of the property. Our room was spacious with a view of Lake Rotorua. We had an outstanding dinner and breakfasts in the lodge dining room. The warmth and helpfulness of the professional staff were simply outstanding. On our own, we had previously scheduled a visit to a Maori cultural center and advised Hamurana Lodge Manager Jenna Brannan of our pickup time for our tour and dinner that evening. After departing for a day of activities, Jenna took it upon herself to call the Maori cultural center to confirm our pickup time. The pickup time had moved up 45 minutes. Jenna called a park we were visiting and somehow was able to get word to us of the pickup time change - outstanding Jenna!!! This is but one example of the high level of service and attention that Jenna and the Hamurana Lodge owner/hosts, Fred Novella and Alex Sogno, provide to it's guests. We highly recommend this wonderful lodge and it's extraordinary staff.

From the pictures on its website, you have to say Hamurana Lodge looks nothing special, but the reality definitely is special indeed. Located well back from the main highway around the lake, you enter up a long drive through the pretty grounds to the lodge at the top of the hill. Parked under the carriage porch and adding to the atmosphere is an elderly Rolls Royce.

We stayed for 3 nights in a family/friends suite, one double for us and a twin for the kids, with a bathroom each. Furnishing was Ok rather than stylish or sumptuous, and the rooms were comfortable if not huge, but they worked well for us.

Star attractions were really the other facilities. There's a study off the entrance hall with comfy chairs and PCs, then a huge billiard room with a bar where (given the amount of time it rained) I spent a long time enjoying rediscovering just how difficult a game snooker is. Beyond the billiard room and downstairs is a well-equipped gym, perfectly adequate for most needs if not 100% up to date in terms of the cardio machines.

The other star is the restaurant. The french chef attended most carefully to our kids' gluten and dairy-free needs, and conjured up the best steak and lamb you could imagine. The breakfast we will not forget either - not only lovely pastries (but far too many!) but the freshest and tastiest eggs I've ever tasted. The kids still rave about them: the staff collect them from the hens which range around the garden and leave them in the flower beds, still warm!

I have to mention the hosts too: friendly, chatty, informative, nothing too much trouble. They fixed up an evening tour for us to fairy Spring and a Maori culture display, as well as giving us recommendations for a couple of beautiful woodland walks.

Room Tip: Family/friends suite (twin + double) works well for a family of 4 and is at the top of the house with a good view over the gardens and lake

What can I say other than thank you.
From the first second we arrived with Joao waiting outside to carry our bags, the warmest greetings from Fred and Alex and the lovely smile every morning from Jenna at breakfast we have never had a better experience in boutique accomodation... in fact most top hotels would struggle to match this.
The whole team at Hamurana were there if we needed them, then disappeared to give us privacy. This is hospitality at its best and it is an experience we will repeat in the future.
I have never felt 'so at home' and truly relaxed the entire two days. (wish we had time for more)

PS... the beds are luxury.

Thank you so much Fred, Alex and your wonderful team.

Do not second guess a stay at this exceptional Lodge.

Chris (& friends)

Room Tip: From what I saw there would not be a room I would not stay in. My room at the top of the stairs (next to main lounge was huge, lovely bed, private lounge, walk in wardrobe, spa bath and large bathroom) Just beautiful.

I had the pleasure of returning to Rotorua for a fashion shoot this past weekend. Myself and the team checked into Hamurana Lodge and were treated to the utmost in hospitality.

No request to Jenna, Joao, Fred or Alex from our demanding team was too much trouble. The epitome of supreme hosting, this team. From the lavish accommodations and supreme breakfasts to the subliminal setting and five star facilities ... start to finish this is one hell of a place to stay!

I would be failing miserably in my duties to all travellers if I didn't recommend this incredible lodge and the amazing team who make a stay here such a pleasure!

I, for one, can hardly wait until I have to visit the area again!

Room Tip: All rooms are stunning .... I can assure you that, given a choice on arrival, you'll be hard-pressed to make a decision! Spread over three floors, each has ensuite facilities and lounge area, along with extra like flat screen televisions, iPod/iPhone docks, Nespresso machines ... there are even complimentary nuts and jelly beans! Grab one with a view over the lake, if possible - incredible views to wake up to!
